Hello, my first post so let me introduce myself. Name's Chris, and i live rural out in Eastern Quebec Canada (can google "Forillon National Park" to see where i'm at).

I hope to visit your pretty seaside town this Winter and stay for awhile..., til the snow melts 'round here in May.

Any musicians about? Need some advice. I plan to leave my guitar at home --it's too old to travel well.
Is there a music shop in town where i can buy a servicable
    steel-string off-the-rack, like a yamaha or something?

Or, would i need to go to Cebu? Also, I read there're guitar makers in Cebu. Do they make steel-strings and are they very expensive?

One last question. Can i buy American brand strings & picks, or should i load-up here before i go?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

A big Salut! to all, hope we can play some tunes together sometime soon,

    chris

IMO, U should pm archon manofsteel. Judging by his avatar, I'd say he's the guitarist of one of our local bands "KOOFELLAS". He, of all the locals should know about guitars and such.

    Hi Chris,

    Local musician here. Guitarist too.

There are a few places here in town where you can get musical instruments and accessories.

Personally, I only go to the 2 music stores in town whenever I need to grab some stuff.

1 is JVS. They have most of the basic stuff you would need. Imported and local electric and acoustic steel-string guitars, picks, strings, etc.
They don't carry Yamaha though. They have Ibanez electric and acoustic guitars, Ovations and some local brands too. They are one of the dealers of Audiophile Components in Manila (link). One of the largest musical instrument distributors in the Philippines. If you find something in Audiophile, chances are they can ship it to JVS Dumaguete.

Another shop is Mako music. A small guitar shop that sells imported and local accessories and a few guitars (electric and acoustic).

Other than that, the next best place to shop for guitars and accessories is Cebu. Everything is there.

    I hope that helps.
Ask away if you have any specific questions.

    Cheers!

    Good day chris!

    Answer to questions:

"Is there a music shop in town where i can buy a servicable
steel-string off-the-rack, like a yamaha or something?" --- Try to visit "Mako" or "JVS" music stores.

"Or, would i need to go to Cebu? --- No need. Added expenses.

"Also, I read there're guitar makers in Cebu. Do they make steel-strings and are they very expensive?" --- Heard of it but never been to it. I believe its in Mactan, Cebu. Also, i believe they make both steel and nylon guitars. "The more expensive, the more quality" is their guitars.

Can i buy American brand strings & picks, or should i load-up here before i go? --- Yep, Mako music store in dumaguete supplies branded stuff too. Still, you can load up some and give them to me, dat would be great! HAHAHA :D

Have a pleasant day Chris! Rock on!

    Hi there Chris

First.....No need to bring your guitar......Being former develloper / importer myselfs, have a dozen or so sitting here, all high end semie acoustic (32 till 65 mm) electric guitars here. Sufficient amplifiers to hook up, and in case needed have also Drumset, Elect Piano, Keyboard, Microphones and the like.......Feel free to get here for jamming sesionssssssssss

As to Strings: Dont worry....Being the former sole importer of OLYMPIA- Strings from Korea, have sufficient stock here, from nylons to steel, up to the latest " Titanium-strings" Local stores here have very limited brands, mostly the " cheap stuff" so don't bother looking around there. (even "darrio" is not available>which tells u all)

Forget about Cebu ( Mactan) Guitar Manufacturers, unless you like to get 15-in-a-dozen quality. Have been there, did compleet research, and did'nt find a single piece of REAL quality.

For futher info, just mail to my Yahoo mailaddy......Will be glad answering more question (if any)

Put yr G-string on the right spot:D and welcome to join the crowd

    Hello to all you musicians,

I'm not a musician but Andy, the owner, at Devlins Resto Bar in Banilad has said he would welcome anyone interested in jam sessions. He has amps, keyboard, speakers, etc.
