Sure, I think the rich should help the poor too and in a country that has so much wealth it seems illogical that people should have to do without basic necessities. The problem has always been how to do it. As soon as you make a service free or nearly free those that don't actually need it will use it along with those that truly need help.
I know there's no perfect system which is why I go ahead and pay my taxes. It also buys me the privilege of complaining about how my government uses that money including stupid and unjust military actions.

On a more positive note; reasons to move to the Philippines.
    1. A lifelong dream of living in the tropics.
    2. A simpler lifestyle.
    3. Finding a city/town that you love.
    4. Good people, whether friends or family.
    5. Having time to truly live.
    6. Love of warm ocean water.

I'm sure there are more.

    Land of the morning,
    Child of the sun returning,
    With fervor burning,
    Thee do our souls adore.

All very interesting points. This topic is something that I have thought a lot about. It is SCARY that in America our medical bills are so outrageous yet I have paid off hospital bills for many kids when I was in the PHL and it wasn't a problem. I just don't get it! I know so many YOUNG people in their 20's that told me they claimed BANKRUPTCY because of all their medical bills.......YES they were working...........we now seem to have a generation called the WORKING POOR in America. It is ridiculous. Many of them don't even get HEALTH INSURANCE for themselves nor their family. They go into debt trying to pay off their health bills. Yet the ones that DO NOT WORK and just claim FALSE disabilities or are on Welfare and keep getting pregnant without responsibilities get all their health care paid for. It doesn't make any sense. I also know of many ELDERLY people who returned to work just for health benefits and many that can't retire and ONLY are working because they get health insurance through their work. No they aren't sick but if something happens they won't be able to cover their medical bills. There needs to be a balance. One nurse even told me about an illegal alien that the hospital gave service to because they are not allowed to turn any one away and now that person is in a coma for life and all the hospital bills are just shoved off on us taxpayers. Yes people should be given hospital care but is it fair to the people that work and are legal and do pay taxes to be overburdened. I am afraid that America is slowly losing the middle class and we will be like the third world countries. Already the top people CFOs, shareholders, managers and others are way OVER PAID and yet they put pay freezes on the working class and continue to want to make higher profits for the already rich while taking away from the lower class. The GREED is just disgusting! Figuring out how to make things fair isn't always easy either but a better way must certainly be found.

Back in the 90s in Oz, I watched a documentary about how Aussie citizens paid approx 20+% (cant remember the exact amount) but the top 100 companies in Oz paid less than 10% with the average being 5% and the highest paid was 10%.

I feel that is just robbery, but you should look at NZ, its worse than OZ. I wouldn't mind if the money was well used but the only people who seem to benefit from taxes are the politicians who are able to provide themselves with pay increases on a annual to bi-annual rate.
