I've recently joined this forum because a large part of my life was spent in Dumaguete. I'm one of those Manila born and bred people who fell in love with the City of Gentle People and decided to stay indefinitely. In fact, so enamored was I that I learned by heart the Cebuano language. I consider myself as an adopted daughter of Dumaguete as well as Siquijor. Right now, I am living in the UK but my thoughts are still in Dumaguete. My time there was filled with blissful and carefree moments. Ganahan gayud kaayo ko sa Dumaguete!
Hi and welcome to the board! This board has a good cross section of people from around the world. As you can see Maria and I are in Alaska, at least for now. We too are planning our return to Dumaguete. Maria was born and raised there. I have been wanting to move there for a very long time but only recently have I been able to convince her to return. Stay tuned I think you will like this site. Jim
Welcome to the forum talisagirl! I was thinking about this the other day when a Filipino phone technician was in my home. My wife has Asian decorations around the house from our trips and he was wondering if she was Chinese. Anyway, the conversation got around to us retiring to the Philippines. He was mystified why anyone would WANT to live there. I have to assume that so many grow up with their goal in life being to get out of the Philippines they don't understand why someone would go back.
Thanks Thank you for all the warm welcome I received! I do consider Dumaguete as my second home and plan to retire there someday.
