    alandw,

If girls and nice beaches are your thing, I highly recommend Sabang Beach in Puerto Galera. Without scuba dive, you should be able live more than comfortably & have decent amount of "entertainment" for $2k a month.

    2k what to do ??

hmmm, I really can't agree with that, PG is nice for a holiday but not for living. I worked there over 3 years. Sabang has no beach, compared to most other places in the philippines you can't consider Big Lalaguna as a beach.
For 2K you can live close to a propper city where you have all you need, from girls to entertainment to health supply. The Subic area is like that. The weather in the central visayas is way better than in Luzon.
so what to do ??? here an idea what I would do in that position with 2K monthly in my wallet moving to the philippines

I would rent a small apartment around AC or Manila. You can get that for 10.000 peso a month easily, cause all you need is a bedroom, TV , shower and a safe.
Now I will pick different detinations in the philippines and travel there to have a look around if I like the area and if there is everything I want and need.

After looking at all places I wanna look at, I would make my decision.

I also would never buy property, cause if I don't like it anymore (and there can be many reasons in that country, from a noisy Karaoke machine in the neighborhood to a new major who can make your life to hell) I move on without dealing with my past.
I don't know what you expect from the girls, but longnoses are also atractive (no matter what age) outside the bars, and believe it or not, when you live for example in Sabang the Nitelife is so boring after a while, cause there is nothing to do. getting drunk each night in a "Disco" is fun for a holiday...

You may wanna have some decent food from time to time, no frozen Karabaw they try to sell you as beef...
you don't wanna travel for some hours to get a propper medical advice from a doctor if you have a problem. (take this pills 3 times a day for 7 days and then come back is the usual advice by the province doc's)
you may wanna have the chance to step into an aircraft and fly to another place for a long weekend.

There are plenty of great places in this beautiful country. Just post what you want and need (being a Peso-millionaire with girls and entertainment can't be the only goals of your retirement) and for sure you get some great help from the board...

    I hope I don't sound too negativ, that's not my intension.:D

    cheers

    Rhoody

Rhoody has kindly provided a lot of useful advice. For someone settling into the Philippines...I think Negros should top the list. By all means, have a look at others. We spent considerable time and effort into looking at Bohol, nice island but poor medical and shopping (however Cebu is an easy and cheap boat ride away)...but we decided that Bacolod would be a better choice...and Dumaguete was a very close second. It only lost out due to infrastructure not quite there yet...and a security (well-debated here) situation that really put my wife off....but if it was my decision alone Duamguete would have won.

Have a nice look around....CDO is great too...$2k would give you many great options...I never look - but I understand pretty girls are all over the country....You'll be fine...

If you're looking for a beach i will recommend Dumaguete City. There are lots of beach Resorts here and they are not so far from each other. With your $2000 a month you can live like a "king". When it comes to women, there are lots of women anywhere but i think it depends on the kind of woman you are looking for (decent or commercial)hehehe

Tagaytay is worth a look, the climate is 21-29 cool breeze, spectacular views, good roads, fast internet, great fruit for sale, top class restaurants, and a casino, shopping malls sm and robinson 20 mins away, not crowded during the week, 90mins to manila airport. 40 mins to the beaches, sailing on lake taal, horse riding, not many brownouts, Dumaguete prices are a little less for shopping and renting, the water quality is better than tagatay, for a diver or a beach person dumaguete would be best, but tagaytay is nice, check it out if you have time. good luck
