    monkey business

    Dear Yabs,
First of all ,monkey are WORLDWIDE and thus also in the Phils and for S U R E in Negros not allowed to have as pets.. Also native birds though I know plenty that keep them in either aviary or cage are strickly banned.
Beside that , Monkey after becoming adults ,which will take some years , up to 7 even , can become very agressive when their hormones are going on the run. Bites of monkey cure very very slowly and leave nasty wounds..

yes ok so nice thought but quite cruel to monkey and dangerous to us
so this foreigner mucy have had it illegally
he had it chained to his car while he was sitting in there
it looked like the type you see frequently near beaches in remote parts
it looked happy enough but i know the disease thing is quite bad

Not if I get there first earl, though I eat meat I can't stand general cruelty. I'd tear his limbs off and beat him with those.

Well i hope that monkey will get a mouthful of him ( that nutter in why not ),serve him a lesson. Not good to ill wish but people who abuse hopeless animals in captivity need a whack.

We once had a pet monkey that was long time ago ,not because we wanted it,but end of the line being dump ,no one to look after it.It was handed to my brother from friend who left for Palawan on research work, and had that baby macaque as gift but can't look after it. Baby monkeys are so adorable sweet little creatures with features close a tiny hairy human only with a tail .So my bro took the 'baby boy ' monkey, brought it to family home. But so appalled about the very sad background of that lil thing.Apparently the mother was shot dead by poachers and took the baby with them sold it for some pesos .Most monkeys you see around in chains must have undergone such traumatic experience in early life, unless breed in captivity, which I never heard of anything around in the philippines,or i may just missed it.

Monkeys are adorable , could just set on my shoulder and fiddle my hair ,guees what ,looking for nets and lice nibbles ,so relaxed . Not because I am infested with them, but by nature they do it ,esp on people with longer hair ,same as they used to do in the wild with their social group. There was no leaflets of helpful info how to rare a monkey esp about diet but only applying what we learned from word of mouth. In terms of diseases sure they can catch bugs like rabbies . You can't have a monkey pet running loose in your household,it will open cupboards ,it will gobble whatever it finds in its fansy,it can jump on windows on ceilings ,on top of furnitures,on your kitchen,it's blooming nightmare .People need to put it in big cage or chain it for control. But to be honest ,I feel sorry for having such life for a monkey.

As our macaque gets older it came aggressively acting against males /men ,even with my father, not so with me and my sisters, though this only a unique observation in itself of this particular monkey ,dunno with others in captivity or as pets as there must be diff variables that might influence its behaviour towards people and sexes.

Anyway, any of you thinking of having pet monkeys , you have to consider where you're going to get it from. If you buy it from the side walk vendors chances are they are from poachers who with no mercy just kill the mothers in the wild for their baby .If there's demand for monkey pets then poachers will supply the demand .By buying them from dodgy sources ,you're indirectly encourging proliferation of those irresponsible activities .

for me newt, prog and earlj, it really depends on one's self how they define act of cruelty, merely possessing a the monkey might not be cruel for others, especially if it is taken cared off.

and we don't know the scenario how he came up with the monkey, he might have bought to an owner who he sees is not capable of feeding and giving proper care.

anyway, i only love to see monkey in the wild

I'd love to capture a poacher, put him in a cage, poke him with sticks and throw things at him. We'll see how he likes that..aarrrrrrrrrrgghh!!
