With all the talk about power issues in Dumaguete I thought a nice pic of the geothermic powerplant in Valencia would be nice to rub it in :p

I was really impressed when I visited, it is a pretty impressive drive.

I thought it was in Palinpinon.. I visited that place back in the 80's, a friend was working there and was cool enough to bring me along as a visitor. If memory serves there's a loud hum and hissing sound. Was there a sulfuric smell too? Thanks for posting that rmlupu

    Rmlupu,

I also like the picture of the cold one n front of you... but serious, we brought some groups there and all were really impressed. If you want to vistit the place and want a guided tour it makes senes to call there in advanced and make an appointment. And I can promise you it is not only the powerplant, it is also going there in general... the nature around the people
    Simply a great trip

    cheers

    Rhoody

Thanks Progmeister, Rhoody, it is the Palinpinon power plant but I guess the mailing address is still Valencia

Big time sulfuric smell, it is so neat to see the volcanic vents even before getting to the plant. I have some shots of those as well. For me it was the first time I was able to walk up to a real live volcanic vent.

I agree Rhoody, the whole place around there is something special. I was not able to take a tour :( but hopefully next time. We were on our way up the mountain to the family farm

Oh yea, I agree about the cold one, hopefully I can enjoy one with ya all next time I am there. Time is always crazy but we usually make time for at least one or two nights out on the town.

I did my vacation employment on that place years ago. Back then I was ignorant about H2S and Asbestos.
Now I'm working for offshore oil and gas drilling and those materials are classified as extremely dangerous in this industry. So dangerous that when H2S goes above 5 ppm, the rig has to muster all crews while the lead people have to put up their breathing apparatus until the gas flow is controlled.

Those guys working in that place have no idea what they are into.
