    hi everybody,

    good morning everyone!

this is my first posting so please be kind to me guys...

i am not from dumaguete but i come from tanjay which is around 31 kilometers away.

i now live in england with my family. my husband is english and we have two lovely daughters.

'never expected to find a site that would interest me, so much, so that i registered straight away to be part of this community.

reading between the lines of the messages i've read so far, it seems that the members are willing to share info/experiences that might be of help or interest to anybody in this forum.

i have been away for many years (although my last visit was two years ago)... i am craving for information/news/current events that are happening around my home town - tanjay (now a city...but i still want to call it a 'town'.. i missed the old tanjay...).

about dumaguete, i can honestly say, that the tanjayanons love dumaguete! most tanjayanons go to dumaguete to study, shop, or just visit. in return, dumaguetenios go to tanjay during fiestas and christmas (i think mainly because of the 'budbod sa tanjay').

has anyone in this forum eaten our famous budbod? what do you think?

this is all for now as i am feeling hungry thinking of the 'budbod sa tanjay'... the last time i've eaten some was two years ago! 'hoping to go back in two years time ...'can't wait!

bye for now until next time.

A warm welcome to you legal eagle. Heard some scary incidents shared by some in this forum but I find Dumaguete a pleasant place to live in, being just new to this city. We had a fabulous stay in Duma for 2 weeks (3 mos ago) and we are loving the place. It has almost everything we wanted in life.... simple living and comfy feeling. Where are you in England? I'm from Newcastle. By the way, I loooove your BUDBOD..... it's usually my breakfast with sweet mangoes at Bethel Hotel with pure native tsokolate. Miss it.

    Hi Eagle,

Mantiaw jud, welcome to the forum:D I have eaten the lovely budbud (with hot chocolate or ripe mangoes) many times as I too have roots in Tanjay. I miss the old Tanjay too, sitting and drinking/talking at the park beside the church or at the plaza. Some folks would call me "ting" which is like a term of endearment to them. July 25, when almost everyone is called "gaw". Ligo dagat in Bais or Amlan. Pang-os tubo. Cockfighting on sundays (though I'm not too keen on that) as I don't gamble. These are just some of the memories off the top of my head.

    Have a great weekend!

    kumustamos everyone!!

    hi everyone,

many thanks for the lovely replies from everyone...i'm so glad that there some members of this forum who know what i was talking about...misamot na hinuon ang akong kamingaw sa 'budbod sa tanjay'. when i go back there and eating that famous budbod, i shall be thinking of you guys! i am willing to share my last budbod...my family over there make the best budbod sa tanjay (i am bias of course because they are my relations...lol).

sorry, i don't know how to reply to individual messages yet. i'll appreciate it if someone can point me in the right direction please.

for now this is for everyone...

next time i am home (negros), i must take advantage of my visit and try not to think of the scary stories i've heard and just enjoy my visit labi na sa dumaguete.

by the way because i am an eagle does not mean i am on my way out (lol)... or doomed to extinction, although if something is extinct could mean a lot of work would go into conservation to avoid extinction and if i were to be one of the american eagles i would be so valuable? unfortunately, i am not an american eagle...just a philippine eagle (not so sure if philippine eagle is less valuable than the american ones).

i miss christmas in tanjay. since i came to england over 20 years ago, i was never back home during christmas. labi na sa tanjay sadya kaayoooo basta christmas, as i remember it, but maybe it's not now? because time has changed, and tanjay is no longer a town - it's now a city with a lot more people living there, that i found it too over crowded, and i felt i did not belong anymore (a foreigner in my own home town?), maybe because 12 years have passed before i visited again...too long...

some pinays here also associate being a tanjayanon the word 'ting' at first i was not pleased (i did not really use that term when i was in tanjay, although my parents did), i thought there is a lot more nice things/terms associated with tanjay...

some pinoys also associate dumaguete with witches? i don't know where they get that information...because when i mentioned that i come from tanjay near dumaguete, i was asked about the witches in dumaguete? weird...because i have never heard that there are lots of witches in dumaguete before i came to england..i just laugh...and defend dumaguete as best i can...because they think i also come from dumaguete (because tanjay is nearby)...so so funny sometimes not only the pinoys i've met here in england but also in saudi arabia where we have lived for 3 years.

sorry my message is getting too long now...'got to stop...

    until next time.......na pod!

have a nice weekend everyone, wherever you may be!!

    au revoir....:o

    hi chrissar,

i am glad to hear that somebody here enjoyed their stay in dumaguete.. sometimes it is not good to hear bad things about a place because it stops someone from enjoying the visit...next time i am there, i must make sure i don't give much attention to those stories, so that i could enjoy more..i think my family over there just tried to warn me for my own safety.

budbod and mangoes are my favourite too...here in bradford, i can get similar mangoes from the asian shops and i cook 'biko' (have you eaten biko when you were in dumaguete? it's similar to budbod but unwrapped...it's just cooked like ordinary rice, but using glutinous rice and coconut milk. my friends here love it...they said my biko is the best they have ever tasted (they tried to cook it but they said it did not taste like my biko).

i don't really know how to make budbod...so i will just have to wait...

have a nice weekend...until next time..

    hi progmeister,

thanks for your reply...all the things you mentioned are lovely memories that i hold too...i used to pang-os ug tubo, when i was little. we used to live in front of a sugar cane field...so kids used to get them as a past time...hehehe. nowadays..kids have not seen sugar cane let alone know what to do with it.

the beach resorts in amlan have improved a bit. i've heard there is a nice one there..we just went to the one along the road to dumaguete, just for me to cool down as i found it hard to cope with the heat at midday.

here in england, where we live is very far from any beach...i have not been to the seaside for years.

'looking forward to going home again...i shall make sure i go to the beach as often as possible.

    good night.....
