hi i will be in moalboal and want to take a trip to siquidor island. i understand i need to come over to dumaguete to catch ferry to do that. maybe im better off just taking a bus over to dumaguete from moalboal and then ferry to siquidor and then just rent a scooter thier????????????and finally is siguidor island really good snorkeling and are the roads decent there?
Went last year from DMGTE to Siquor with my own MC. A big palava getting documentation to take MC, seems they think it will be a stolen one and you are trying to sell it.....Plenty of MC to rent there, roads make Negros look like tracks, traffic light and island actually fun to explore by MC. Normal 110/125 cc MC will struggle on some of the hills across the middle. For us a worthwhile experience if you can put up with the MC owned by yourself passing stupid PP procedures. Have fun. As for snorkeling, there are places to do this but not in my mind a main stream activity, plenty things to see just exploring the island. Suggest minimum of 2 days. Driving there much higher standard than dangerous dumaguete and helmet MUST be worn.
Agree...mostly. Fatalities on mcs are common. 5 just outside our house in the last 3 years. So take it easy. Only one hospital on the island and it can be a long way to it if you need emergency treatment from the other side of the island. It’s not the best equipped either. Re snorkelling and diving. Lots to keep you occupied, but beware the starfish when wading out. Couple of great outfits...Floras Dive resort comes to mind, and the rest mostly so so. Moalbol is a bit of a hike to Duma. Prepare, start ultra early and expect an 8-10 hour day minimum. If you must hire a mc, I would hit your resort first as the outfits on the pier at Siquijor can be over-priced. Many households have extra motors, just ask, treat with respect as livelihoods depend etc and hire from a local. The money will end up in the pockets of a local family rather than a foreign owned resort or company. The downside: check for wear n tear etc. Safety first. Mind you, same goes for any outfit flogging mottos to long noses. A word again about safety. Over Xmas I had to take 4 tourists to Siq provincial hospital for treatment. 2 seperate incidents. All four from the west, cuts, bruises, a few stitches, roadrash. Watch every bend with care as some are blind and tight. Dogs, chickens, goats, pigs wander about, let alone drunk drivers, kids on the road and drunk dong trying to get home. Had to take the keys off one chap New Year’s Eve as he couldn’t stand. Came off his moto, spilled petrol over his shorts in the dark and tried to use his lighter to find the keys. Sheesh. C
As of a few months ago Maayo shiupping ran Santander/Larena every day at 10 am. and also had a boat that ran Tampi/larena. You would have to contact Maayo to find out for certain what or if that is an option now.
Yep. It’s still an option as is Ocean Jet Cebu-Tagbilaran-Larena. Lite Ferries too. Pier 2 from Cebu. You can also do a Santander Larena run as well. The Ocean Jet run will chop about 6 hours off any journey to Siquijor. Leaves at about 6am.
If you decide to bring your own bike, check if the ferry is only for passengers. Ocean Jet Cebu-Siquijor only for passengers and Lite ferry you can bring cars and bikes (if I remember right), best call the ferry terminal at the pier if you decide to bring your bike. Remember OR and CR for your bike or forget to bring your bike with the ferry
ive been to phillipines multiple times. but new to ferry and bikes what would you do bring my rental bike or just go by foot and rent their?????????
I would decide based on how many days I was there. If it was just a few days then the rental fee (taking advice from above members on how to find a cheap rental on Siquijor) might be much cheaper than the cost of bringing your mc. Assuming you are returning to Moalboal: Compare (mc fuel cost Moalboal to Dumaguete Port + ferry cost for mc Cebu to Negros + ferry cost mc Dumaguete to Siquijor) X2 WITH (bus fares (no mc) Moalboal to Dumaguete Port) X2 + rental fee on Siquijor for mc. Other costs such as your ferry fares are irrelevant as they factor in for both choices; if you travel far from Siquijor port before hiring the mc then the cost (X2) for that part will be relevant. With all the extra ferry fares, I am guessing that renting a mc in Siquijor will win.
You might have a problem transporting a rental bike to another island. Check with the rentor and get a letter or something convincing to LE. Also, considering the ferry fee for a bike, you might be better off renting on the other side. You can negotiate on arrival.
If you like sharks and big clam you can see them snorkelling in Tulapos marine sanctuary (back tip). Tubod is nice for the soft coral as well but be ready to pay an entry fee.
