    Hi Archon;
    If you are really serious to know the procedure and possibilities of going abroad but not specifically USA (maybe Canada) you can email me privately or check the Canadian Embassy in Manila,they are hiring foreign skilled workers as we are experiencing an economic boom and shortage of workers in most Canadian Provinces.

    Good advice, Having lived in both u.s. and Canada, I would look there first. They are a little friendlier towards immigrants, unless G. bush has strong armed the Canadian immigration and his little buddy Harper.
    The opportunities for care givers is very good, it requires less training than nursing, read less money, and if you add on a two or four year degree in a related field your chances get better.

    If your intent is to get citizenship,Canada is definately easier.

    Toronto, for example, has a large Filipino community, and it is a cosmopolitan city very tolerant of diversity.

    I think the general problem in the Philippines is accessing the right agency or mechanism for emmigrating. There are a lot of scams I think.

    Maybe Canada may not be that bad. I was targeting the US since some of my aunts are working there already. It's much better to have relatives near-by. Yah, there are lots of scams, e.g., illegal recruiters. A friend of mine in Cebu was swindled 40,000+.. :mad:

    If I was choosing a country to go abroad and work in, I wouldn't pick one that by all responsible and reasonable predictions is heading directly for an economic collapse.

    Even if Disneyland gave discounts.

    the rumoured scam my cousin was a victim was indeed confirmed ,she lost above
    P100K to processing transactions for this teaching job in the texas she's dreaming of and had kept on waiting for a job contract that never came. i am sorry for her ,lot of money for a filipina teacher can afford to loose and now she's in debt. once in debt with very high interest rates in Ph lending the worrying doom can spiral .sad to say she failed to see some indicators of scam. before even checking the authenticity of the recruitment agency,blinded with too much excitement of this new hope ,without second thoughts gave in money for the registration and more money given to as it went on with no suspicion at all .now she's in mess repaying her debts.

    if faced with similar circumstances seeking jobs abroad , try to check the recruitment agency in POEA or related government agency before engaging with any transactions just to make sure.people who fall into illegal recruitment are often exploited or even in endangering their lives .there are some who made it through their countries of destination only to face the shocking truth of not landing into jobs as promised on paper but forced into undesirable jobs like prostitution or being abused like slaves.with no tracking record from the government overseas employment agency there's little that can be done except to do the runner .

    heard of australia opened up its immigration /recruitment for more skilled workers .

    Just a comment on jobs here in the US. I work for a large hotel resort and convention center in Olando Florida. Most hotels here use an agency to employ foriegn workers such as the philippines. We know that most flippina/filipinos make good workers and are very dependable.

    The agnecy charges a large fee which is deducted from their monthly salary. They put you up in an appartment typically 6 to a 3 bedroom appartment the rent is $400.00US each. They charge $5.00US for transportation each way. 6 workers is $60.00US a day, and thats for a 4 mile trip. My wife being filipina kinda takes these young girls under her wing. We know of one who made $40.00 after all the fees were deducted from her salary ( thats for 1 month) she worked double shifts just to get ahead. Several agencies have been uder investigation.

    There are good agencies which recruit from Siliman U but they are mostly nurses which are in high demand in the US.

    One of the agencies that is being used is VR services which consist of individuals (workers) from several countries. They are probbably using several agencies in Manila. I'll talk to the pinay /pinoy at work to find out if there is a local agency there.
