Some statements here picqued my interest in this thread.
I think that's an over-statement. It's true, to a point, if you're born here or fortunate enough to have immigrated in some fashion. If you're coming in on some type of work visa you're in for a big shock. Foremost is the cost of living here is very high. It may seem like a salary of US$50K per year is a lot of money but once you start paying for rent, food, taxes, transportation, clothing, etc., you have almost nothing left. The hotel jobs pay far below that amount, less than half actually.
The recommendation of looking to Canada or Australia is a good one. It can be much easier than getting into the U.S. but you still need to offer some kind of skill. Nursing is huge.
Yes, there are some scary things going on in the U.S. economy but keep in mind, if the U.S. economy does "collapse" it will effect the entire world. No place will be "safe". If you're really worried about that you'd better figure out how to be completely self-sufficient. It's funny how so many people seem worried about the U.S. economy but no one seems worried about China which is walking on the edge of a knife.
Something to think about is the fact that we are in a global economy. People don't have to emmigrate to the levels they have in the past. Look at India. There are a lot of people making good money as software developers, technical support and call center workers.
A lot of Filipinos are working in Dubai and are pretty happy. That may be worth looking into as well.

    archon,
try to be realistic with your quest for a job abroad. If you have skills and good records then theirs no stopping you in applying to a job wherever you want.Just google it ! read and investigate and if you need our help to confirm to you your agency or place of choice, then post it here in Di and im sure you can get a hundred of response all over the globe. As you can see Di have lots of Filipino live or work abroad. But you need to be specific want you want to do. Good luck!
