    Dear Swany,
It seems we have two different opinions about Gene's apology. I'm good with that. As they say, diffrent strokes for diffrent folks. What is important is that we are both concerned about the reputation of Dumaguete's gentle people.
However, allow me to contradict you in your statement that i won't be involved in the defense of Dumaguete.
You see, whenever i meet with friends who just came back from a vacation in Dumaguete, the topic about this 'gentle' term would always turn up. They usually said that a lot of changes have happened in Dumaguete - some good and some not. Highlighted are the rise in crimes on the streets, incidents of home invasions, and the rising number of drug users there. I don't know where you are based now, but most of those who are working here who came from Dumaguete left the city at a time when one was not afraid to get caught on the streets at whatever time of the day or night. Home invasions were very rare, if not unknown. The crime rate in general was low. The oldtimers (who were the basis for the term 'gentle people') have now been replaced by a new generation and migrants from other places that don't seem to be so gentle anymore. In my own small way, i try to assure them that Dumaguete is still relatively a nice and safe city to live in compared to other cities in the Phils. One does not have to physically live in Dumaguete to defend its reputation.
The truth is, the concensus or majority of comments about the 'gentle people' claim of those who recently visited the city is that it has been greatly eroded, though I could not personally verify this cause it's been a number of years since i was in Dumaguete.

    For the sake of clarification!

    Hi Swany & Boyette;et-al
Thank you for your understanding! The key word was "Subjective" and my statement and my actual feeling/experience are not related to each other. I Love our gentle city and even planning to retire and live there the rest of my natural life,it was an "open" question and supposed to have variety of answers/opinion but I realized that was inappropriate and rude in other places to have that kind of comment.
