I plan to relocate to Dumaguete early next year. Naturally, my first order of business will be to find a home. I will need two bedrooms, hot water bath, and, of course, a kitchen. I don't want to be too far out of the city because my Filipina wife will probably be attending one of the universities. A nice, safe neighborhood is a must. Any suggestions and information will be greatly appreciated. Regards, Bill Foulk

    possibilities

    Hi William B. Foulk

If you need help later on with looking into possible places, let me know. I was passing by, as of last week, a house and lot for sale. Got the cell number posted and asked for the price: 7M. info given by the answering lady; the place is fully furnished. It's close to the airport. I don't own the place, only sharing info. Another possibility is an apartment available by May 2008. It's got 1 big bedroom with AC, a kitchenette and dining area, an anteroom to the living area, a huge bathroom and common use of a courtyard. Hot and cold water supply ok. Located close to the GSIS Bldg., close to St. Paul's University; along the highway. Only 7K per month. If I know of any more possibilities, I post them on here as the info might be helpful----somehow.

AND YES! DC Forum is the right place where to be anytime of the day! Kudos to the managers/owners.

Thank you for the info. The rental looks particularly interesting. I would probably rent for at least six months before buying something. Regards, Bill Foulk

    time framework

    Hi Bill,
Let me know your time framework. I'll be back from out of town sometime next week. Where I'll be there's no internet connection so will read messages sometime a week after today.

Bill I might have something but can't confirm until January 2 or 3. It's a pretty contentious issue on this board as to whether foreigners should buy property in the Phils. Definately take your time and get lots of advice. My 2 cents: RENT ....don't ever buy property in a country without a solid reputable legal infrastructure. Been there ..done that ..... promised myself never to do it again.

    Absolutely!

CHUCK, THANKS. What you've said is not a warning...it's a fact. when buying props, do some action research. Is the prop titled? Is it up to date with taxes? Is there any hidden agenda attached toit? like a hidden mortgage agreement? Are the owners in country so to have clean negotiations, not passing by the oftentimes nasty middles? etc. etc. of which there are many. It is not safe to buy props without knowing how deeeeep the pool is. EQ your excitement. A prop may look so attractive that your love at first sight blinds you!
I am a little bit into property things and so I've been a victim at least three times in various formats--hidden agenda as in common mortgage discovered too late into the purchase process, no clean title just word of mouth stuff, and middle persons running away with the money so ending up paying twice!
Oh yeah--am educated but I've been had. Sometimes one's education cannot ward off the bad attempts totally. Sometimes, education makes one too trusting and respectful!
Now, I can't say am expert but I have learned more and BOY! am I glad that I am able to post this.

Mam that link is not found or no longer public. I'm surprised with all your experiences you haven't just summed it all up and said " Don't buy in a country with no reliable legal processes !!" or perhaps you are from the phillies and don't have much choice ? As i indicated in another post, for me personally, the most dangerous thing about buying is getting badly ripped off and consequently going after whomever ripped you off in a violent assaultive manner and winding up in prison. I don't have the emotional restraint to stop myself from going nuts when people rip me off for much lesser things and i can't do anything alternative to them such as suing. I can't imagine my emotional response in a position of losing many thousands of dollars to some bag of sh!+.
