When tourism finally comes back (if ever) i would suggest that the company's that rent them motorbikes should really stress to the hirer how vigilant they need to be of the dangers caused by dogs, chickens, goats, drunks wandering into the road. I know the subject of stray / unleashed dogs has been well covered before in the forum but i felt the need to bring it up as over the last 3 days 2 filipino men i know who were both experienced riders and knew the dangers have both been in accidents caused by dogs. Fortunately their injuries were not fatal but 1 is in hospital awaiting an operation for his injury, what is probably more important to them is that they now cannot work until they heal up so no money coming to feed the family and of course the medical bills. Will the dog owners compensate them for this... My suggestion is that all the people that are sitting around at the covid checkpoints but not even stopping anybody should be put to work rounding up these dogs and fining the owners. YES i know i am flogging a dead horse but one more lash won't make it any more dead
Those dogs, chickens and drunks only have owners if there is money to be made out of killing it.. if they need to pay you will quickly find out that no one owns that dog or chicken or local drunk.
And then what? The neighbor of my in-laws has 20 dogs, after starting with 2 a couple years ago, that roam around in a pack barking at everyone and seem like a real danger to the children there when they're in a frenzy, but no one does anything. It will take a child being shredded before something happens, so I think there's little chance of dogs that chase motorcyclists being handled by anyone but the cyclist. Perhaps a United Cutlery Defense Thumper?
Singapore had a good method around 30 years ago.. The primary production department would send out notices on radio, TV, news papers and post on street corners that they would be controlling dogs on such and such day if they were not in yards or chained up..Even to the point if the owners were walking them without a leash..The person would get a fine of around $100. Any uncontrolled/stray dogs were shot.. The offshore base's in Jurong and Loyang were favourite dumping grounds for unwanted pets.. You know those cute birthday and christmas puppy's that got too big to stay in an HDB flat. The packs of dogs in those places was dangerous if you were walking. Primary production would come with an old beat up Toyota pickup and start shooting.. A truck load of feral dogs on a Sunday morning was easy and from what i heard they went to the zoo where the lions and other big cats quite enjoyed them.
