⌛ Palawan Wreck Diving

I would like to go to Palawan next year for some wreck diving. I heard there was a major battle there and there were some Japanese ships sunk in quite shallow water. Does anyone know anything about this and what is the departure point for seeing this ? Thanks.

 

Coron Wrecks and Palawan

The palawan wrecks are actually in the North, have a look for Coron.
There are some grest wreck-dives there and the visibility better than in Subic. There is also some great reefdiving in this area and the diveshops discover more and more reefs.

depending on your tome and money but from feb to may is the season for trips to Tubbataha Reef with starting point Puerto Princessa. For a two week vacation it is a outstanding trip, first Tubbataha and then Coron (with a stopover in El Nido)..

Yup, wreck-diving would be in Coron. Seair flies direct from Manila to Busuanga (Coron). Unless you are joining the Tubbataha trip which originates from Puerto Princesa and unless you're also interested in diving in Puerto Princesa, it would be more practical to go to Manila then fly direct to Busuanga. Coron is as far from Puerto Princesa as Puerto Princesa is to Manila -- flying from Puerto to Coron via Seair will cost you about P3K one-way.

Hi Chuck, you can dive Tubbataha with the Explorer Fleet. They have various boats at different prices.

For Coron, I dived with Discovery Divers in the town. Two dive trips are about US$ 50 but you can get cheaper if there are other divers on the boat. Drinks and lunch are extra.

Places to stay - I stayed at Michael Angelo’s Hotel, a new seafront hotel on the edge of town. It costs P 800 for a room, plus breakfast is extra. The rooms are pretty basic but good value. The hotel does have a free wireless internet, which is a bonus. Their restaurant specialises in Italian pasta (surprise, surprise).

 

The wreck diving is really for enthusiasts. The water is super murky due to oyster farms nearby. I wasn't impressed. Sorry Coron.

 

Any Big Fish on these wrecks

Wondering if there are any big groupers lurking on the wrecks. Seems most of the big fish have all gone away to depths below advanced rec diving (say 150 feet) but wrecks seem to always have loyal residents especially groupers

 

I don't remember seeing any PD. But as you say, there normally are some on all wrecks.

I just would say that one mustn't go there under the impression that there will be more than normal. :o
