From everything I've read, Signal is the most secure of the messaging apps. Messenger and Facebook retain your data and messages.
Messenger works well for me. I like the voicecalls and video calls too. Filipinos also use viber and telegram quite a lot.
I wrote this from what I know and have not recently researched it - so I am sure some here can add many other services: I think originally most people connected by video using yahoo - that was overtaken by skype, then Messenger (still probably the most popular), now Whatsapp (also very popular), Signal, Telegram, Viber, Discord, Hangouts, IMO, Line, Kik, WeChat. It must be a big problem for new online daters (my friend tells me) to find someone using the same service.
