Ok just some things I noticed here, the thread titles seem to be talking poo a lot. Water and diarea, IT outlook still crap, Dog sh*t on the streets. some here seemed to be full of it, and then its knee deep on some of them threads about politics. It would be great to learn about something else in dumagute.
Like where do the nice folks hang out, the ones who aren't still fightin the civil war, talking american politics, and dog poo. I go to the bolevard and see some old guys there all day drinking beer. I mean I aint no spring chicken, but some of these guys makes Moses look like a pup.
Any places close but not on the boulevard? free of the grizzly guzzlers? Don't get me wrong, i like a cold one on occasion.
ButI'd rather look at somthin pretty whether it's girls or scenery.

    Places to go

There is a newly opened Joes Chicken Enata by the sea next to Sea Forest and Dream Park. This is north of Sibulan, so perhaps not considered "near by"?

Anyway, it does not take that long to get there, weather by own transportation or by jeepney. And the view is very nice over Tanon Straight towards Cebu Island. If you want to look at girls also, probably better to bring them yourself...

Personally I like Dream Park very much, and going to this place always brings peace to my mind. But it is definitly a place to go for picknic with your filippino family, not to go alone, since the idea is that you bring your own food and drinks.

As for the number of negative threads, I agree with you, but there should be a certain room to discuss the less rosy parts of live in Dumaguete and the Philippines also. Like increased crime rate, hopeless and unfair laws, excessive diving fees, environmental problems, corruption, bad internet connections or whatever.

Where possible however, emphasis should be put on suggesting constructive solutions, i.e where and how to get a better internet connection, how to protect yourself against crime etc. and not just to "let steam out".

Whow..... it looks if you have not read the other postings with very positive things. As an introduction it's quite amazing for me.
But anyway still welcome DOBS
Would be nice to learn a bit more from you.
There is so much more to read as you will find out. But indeed, a forum is also there to ventilate the less attractive experiences (like dog po :D )

What I do while in Duma

I give away ice cream to the poor kids in town. I explore Negros on a Honda wave. I go caving. I visit Sister Julia at the Friendship Home. We dine out with friends and family. I helped Jimmy with his motor rental business, "Jimmy Motor Rentals." We try to visit at least one other island on each visit. Some times we visit other countries near the PI.

Yes, as it was mentioned above by fundiver198, a newly opened Jo's by the Sea Chicken Inato is a place for relaxing and good dining, with a fantastic view of the island of Cebu and neighboring islands. It's just few steps to Sea Forest and right infront of her restaurant is a beautiful Our Lady's Garden with a thirty five foot statue of Virgin Mary. This establishment is located in Ajong' Sibulan. Oh, by the way, welcome to the forum dobs. Have a great day!

Much to dog poo indeed. Kudos to your thread dobs, and welcome to the forum.

Grandpainak's post where he mentioned caving. Good day to you Sir! Are you aware of caves sites good for spelunking in Dumaguete?

The Provincial Tourism Office near the capitol has a wide selection of info on natural sights in Oriental Negros...caves, waterfalls, lakes, etc. I visited the caves in Mabinay years ago when the area was still heavily forested and replete of fruit bats. Now the forests are gone and ditto the fruit bats. You can see fruit bats at the Mambucal Resort near Bacolod(Negros Occidental).

Thank you for the information balustre. The friut bat population may not be prevalent now but maybe the "balinsasayaw" had still maintained their abode.
