    Hallo there,

am living in Sipalay for almost two years now and am employed by the DED, the German Development Service, to assist the rural LGUs in Southern Negros Occidental in setting up a solid waste management system and trying to implement RA9003... A similar project by DED has been done in Bais City, see also: The German Development Service (DED) in the Philippines- ded.ph --Homepage.

As the airport in Bacolod is moving northwards and the National Road from Hinoba-an Poblacion to the provincial boundary is getting paved (ok, will take some more time), I think it is time to get in deeper touch with Dumaguete, also to use it as a base for flights to Manila instead of using the new Bacolod-Silay airport.

Furthermore, thanks to you I see that Dumaguete area has quite a lot to offer, and am looking forward to the opening of Robinsons... And next time I will pass by, I will surely contact this guy baking German bread

    Greetings from Sipalay

    Paving of road

    Hi Monsoonhunter

It is great to hear, that the last piece of road on the national highway around the island will finally be paved. I have always wondered, why this exact peace was left unpaved, even after they had fixed all the rest. But I guess they just ran out of money

Paving of this peace of road will probably also be good for turism in Sipalay, since more of the people visiting the resorts in Daiun might be tempted to go to Sipalay as well, if travel time is cut down a bit. Not that it will be a huge difference, but even small things count

Also nice for you people living there, that you will have a bit easier ascess to Dumaguete as an alternative to Bacolod.

    Big difference!

    Hi fundiver198,

just travelled the national road in Hinoba-an to spent a week-end at the Kookoo's Nest in Siaton last week-end. They did already a pretty good job in road paving in between Hinoba-an Poblacion and Barangay Asia. Well, of course, with the usual piecework and interruptions of pavements, and I don't know yet waht they are going to do about the old bridges...

Would be of course a boost for the area here, but worse than the roads may be the public transport from Dumaguete, as tourists may usually have to change buses (and wait for their connections) two times (Bayawan, Hinoba-an), this may be a discouraging factor as well.

    Anyway, things are getting better...

    Distance

How far is Sipalay from Dumaguete, are buses accessible 24/7? How long does it take to travel?

    Buses between Dumaguete and Sipalay

    Hi IndaysaCebu,

think there are regular buses, but not during nighttime. However, you normally have to take a bus to Bayawan, and take a bus to Hinoba-an there. In Hinoba-an, you again have to change buses, this time going either to Bacolod or Kabankalan, but there is only about 45 more minutes until you reach Sipalay Poblacion.

Unfortunately, the bus changing slows down the traveler, but I think the trip can be done in some 4 to 5 hours from Dumaguete. Alternatively, there is also V-Hire between Dumaguete and Bayawan.

Hope this information helps a bit...
