    Hi,

this is my first post here.
So my best regards to all of you.

I am in Dumaguete since October, relocated from Mindanao.

After relocating I was lucky that my landlord had an unused globe line in his other house so I could connected at all and got the globe 2mb package.

I don`t want to get too technical, but pings and available bandwidth were all over the place all the time. Something I got used to.

Than the 15th of january came. GlobeDSL went down for a couple of days and went back up with minimal bandwidth (around 100kb/s) until february 8.
Bandwidth went back to something I could live with also, around 1mb/s.

But ever since the incident all connections made to GlobeDSL are going thru their proxy servers. Basicly a proxy server is a cache server. So when you load a website, the files you see in your browser actually come from their proxy server in manila. I suspect that they do that to save badwidth.

Now, I have a few problems with this setup, on the background that I earn my peso as a webdeveloper and advertiser.

E.g. the proxy cache takes weeks to update to current files.
What I mean is, you make some design changes and replace an image with a new version on the website server, and you still see the old image weeks after, because they don`t update their proxy.

Another sample would be that all globedsl users nation wide share just a very few IP adresses from the proxy servers and getting banned all over the place from webservices I need for my daily work. I have seen google temporarily banning the proxy server (in this case, google does not see your real IP adress, but the proxys IP).

If you are on globe dsl and browse to dnsstuff.com
you will see what I mean. You can`t use the service because globes proxy is banned, even if you pay for their service.

Calling the service hotline gives you only the same answer for weeks: troubleshooting is ongoing. A visit to the customer care desk only resulted in a call back from the service hotline. LOL!

They now told me I could ask for a static IP adress for php700 extra.
I wouldnt mind, if they could guarantee that I would not go thru their proxy.
But that the hotline friend could not do.

I have found earlier this week some posts from globe here, kinda spamming their promos from last year. Maybe there is somebody from globe could enlighten me here about what is going on and if it ever gets fixed!

For all others, I still have a very little hope that there is an alternative in the city. And I dont mean the smart wireless 375kb connection.
So the question to you all is: Well, is there an alternative?
Is any other provider planning to come to Dumaguete?

It is really a shame that Globe does not have any competition in Dumaguete.
What is with the cabletv company?
In CDO I had a great experience with the cabletv providers cable broadband.

I am pretty much getting frustrated, and I am losing money too.

    Best regards again,

    Martillo

you could try bayantel, best service i've seen so far. but then again, our office is in the city proper, they don't have that much wide coverage beyond that.

there's a way of forcing the web browser to get the info directly from the server while ignoring the cache. press CTRL-F5 instead of the usual F5 to reload.

btw, last i heard, globelines is currently repairing their lines, hence the crappy connection nowadays.

since I signed up some months ago Globe has always used a proxy server.
control + refresh gets you a new page. You can switch connections from your computer to get the fastest one, at installation they should have provided the following link to access the speedstream router management interface.
    http://192.168.254.254/
    click on home.

    I know all that.

Not all connections have been proxy connections.
If you got an IP starting with 203.xxx
they always have been proxy connections.

They have 2 other blocks starting with 222.xxx and 124.xxx
These connections were not proxy connections before.
I used to reconnect via the modem in the browser until I get a 124.xxx IP.
They used to be the fastest according to my tests.

Just now for the past 5 weeks, they are all proxy connections.

I know also that they are repairing something. They keep telling me that for weeks.

Bayantel does not offer services in Bagacay yet.
I hope I will see them soon here.

    Thx for the replies guys,
I guess I am stuck with globe for now.
