They used to have a live band on wednesday 10:00 pm till midnight, they did not play last wednesday, I don't know if it stopped.

Wed, Fri, Sat 70 Peso entrance-fee, partially consumable.

Regular SMB 38 peso, don't know about rum 'n coke, but all quite reasonable priced. cheaper then some boring places at the boulevard

    cheers

    Why Not

Why Not in Dumaguete has the same owner as El Dorado Beach Resort in Dauin, hence the free shuttle bus between these two places. He also own Maldito in Malapascua and is possibly still involved in one or more bars in AC, where he started his business life in the Phil.

I think a rhum-coke in Why Not is 50 peso or so. In wednesday it used to be "happy hour", meaning all local mixed drinks were 70 peso for two i.e. two bear, two rhum-coke, two gin-tonic etc.

Why Not is a bit of a "love or hate" place, but it is one of the few places in Dumaguete, where there is a bit of action after 10-11 p.m. If the music in the disco gets to noisy, they also have a bar playing german music all the time as well as a small KTV.

For me the main attractions of Why Not are the two billard tables inside the disco and the one in the bar. All are "challenge tables" and the two tables in the disco in particular are frequented by a lot of regular players.

A couple years ago, when I was single, hehe, I used to frequent the Why Not and played a lot of pool there. The "challenge" is sometimes rigged, especially by the local and influencial hot shots. they will sometimes just keep playing between two guys and not relinquish the table to a challenger, other times they simply cheat and change the rules of 8 Ball.
One time, I beat a local guy, and he just denyed what happened, he scratched shooting, the 8 ball went in, (not the object ball), which by rule is an immediate forfiture. being the foreigner, I just gave in and walked away.

    when in Rome...

They have had live bands, not sure if regularly though. The one we saw I was not impressed with though. In all fairness to the band the sound engineer was awful. The sound level and mixing was so bad I nearly left my San Mig unfinished and left. If you knew me, you would know how bad that truely is. :D This was the last time I was there which I think was around July'07.

Glad you stopped by. I actually have some pictures of Why Not, inside and out, but really thought it best not to put them on a public site. They are not racy or anything just not very interesting

I actually only get into the Why Not maybe once or twice each trip and typically leave the camera at the hotel. I mostly just like to relax and have fun and make a complete @ss out of myself dancing. (If you saw me you would know what I am talking about :D ) I have posted some pictures here and I promise I will do so again but I have to resize and change them to get them to fit on here and I am way back logged on photography work as it is.

Honestly I have no idea where I was, we were walking to my brother-in-law's farm. I do not know where exactly, it was around 80KM to 100KM outside of Dumaguete going towards Mabinay. I think we must have walked another 5KM or so into the area off the road (or something that is kind of like a road).

This is actually an interesting story. Once we got there we lost the slave cylinder for the clutch in the jeep (you can see the jeep in the pictures). We had to push start the Jeep in first gear to get it going, stop on a hill and get it into second gear by manually pressing on the clutch, and then push start it down the hill in second gear. We then proceeded to drive all the way back to Lower Batinguel without stopping once, not once in over 80 kilometers. It was a wild ride of honking and swerving all the way home. We actually wore the horn out a few kilometers from home and had to use the flashers but we still made it.

On a side note, if anyone reading this was almost run over by a white jeep full of lunatics back in July I sincerely apologize. :D
