⌛ Crime rampant again?

    Thanks for the info. It is sad but true that violence has gone up in DUMA. When I first volunteered over 15 years ago I was very free to walk around and talk with the locals. I so loved it and the people. Since then I have noticed so many changes towards violence and crime (yes, RHB, it is still low compared to other places) and it so disturbs me that this is happening. I have had men follow me on their motorcycles and call to me as I walk down the street using very sexual terms. I am no longer free to walk around as before. The men ALWAYS were polite and no problems EVER before but since DUMA has grown into a city there have been many changes in the attitudes of some of the people that don't observe good behavior. I also dropped off my gfs one night and was followed and jumped by three men from their motorcycle. They had a gun to my head and I reached the gates of my secured place as the security guy held his gun to their heads. I guess the Security guy WON since they took off with only my purse. I have had so many of my filipino/a friends telling me about robberies at GUN POINT over just cell phones (being stolen from POOR people so they weren't that expensive) WHILE they were walking down the street in DAYLIGHT. I have never worn my jewelry there or anything to try to cause any problems or make me more of a target than I already am by my color and heritage. Let this be a warning to those that come to visit in DUMA or any place in this world. There are GOOD and BAD everywhere. Yes, I still plan on going back and being MORE careful and smarter about things. DUMA is worth it!

    In reference to the opening post:
    Curious how there always seem to be those that tend to focus on the negative, not just here but everywhere. I don't know what the motivation or goal is. Perhaps they believe they are somehow helping by spreading the warning. I believe it actually creates unneccessary fear. There's nothing wrong with being informed but when it's presented in this format it is undeniably one-sided.

    How ironic! your statement is negative!

    I don't think that it is 'undeniably one-sided.' I think that I put in a few helpful ideas about lighting and adding more to the police force.

    Some see it half full and some see it half empty, I guess this thought holds water.

    I think that most people are trying to be helpful.

    Depending on your perspective; yes, it is a criticism of the opening post, therefore negative, however, it is positive in that things are not as bad as the picture painted by the opening post.
    Additionally, I only addressed the opening post, not comments made by others in this thread.

    Over here in California, crime happens many times in broad delight. Bank robberies, purse snatching, car jacking and even murder are rampant here. Crime in Dumaguete is nothing compared to CA or USA. You get the picture? :(:D

    Sure, I get the picture. I lived in Boston for 25 years. I am just suggesting that if the local government in Dumaguete puts up more street lights this might be a deterrent to crime. I believe some Supt or Captain of the Dumaguete police also suggested this. Also, I think that there are numerous case studies that also suggest this.

    I have seen robberies, shootings, and a murder. I even have had a 357 magnum stuck in my face. Yes, "i get the picture."

    Did you know that in most states B & E (breaking and entering) carries a longer sentence if it is done at night than if it done in the day?

    Timn8ter, yes, I agree with you. The opening post is very negative. Whats that saying? 'turn lemons into lemonade?' I guess only 'the Shadow Knows!' Why he/she would put out a negative thread like that. Passive aggressive maybe? Ahh, who cares, if there is a problem then, there must be a solution.

    More police officers (boots on the ground) and more street lights is just a start.
