Never had any problems with the money changers in Dumaguete roud the BPI bank.
They always count your money properly and I always say that I wil count it again.
They already know me cos I come twice a year in Dumaguete, special the bol headed man with the sunglasses.

    Manila money changers

A few years back (1999) my then girlfriend who is now my wife were staying on Ermita Street in Manila @ a hotel that is not there anymore called centerpoint hotel. The first thing that happened was we decided to change $200.00 for p with a black market money changer. We went to this back alley resturant where the transaction took place. I watched the guy count the money and did not blink an eye. He scooped the money up with his hands, folded it up and handed it to me. My wife (girlfriend) grabbed it from me and counted it right there. Found it was short by one hundred Dollars. She threw the peso back on the table and grabbed our $200.00 and we left that establishment forthwith. Later, we were having breakfast and I told my wife I wanted a paper to read and I was going to the corner news stand to get a paper. She ask if maby she should go with me. My reply was I'm just going to buy a paper what kind of trouble could I get into. So I left, bought the paper and was strolling back to the hotel when this shoe shine guy wanted to shine my shoes, so I let him. Meanwhile here comes the money changer from the back alley resturant and ask if I need some pasoes (spelling) I told him I have plenty, sohe hung around for a while and aske if I had change for a 1000.00 paso note. I looked at him for a minute trying to figure his game and decided no harm with it so I gave him 2-500 paso notes in exchange for hi 1000.00 paso note which I stuck in my pocket. While I was waiting for the shoe shine guy to finish I was feeling the 1000 paso note in my pocket and it didn't feel right. I pulled it out, unfolded it and guess what? It had printed on the back side PLAY MONEY which of course was folded over to cover it up. I was ashamed to ttell my wife, but I had to finally fess up. More to come later!

sorry for your loss Sky6king. lts a sad truth but they have more scams going than we ever dreamed of. On the bright side, there are many who are honest and just doing business. l guess the trick is to weed out the good from the bad and hopefully not loose too many piso in the process.:D

there are loads of money changing shops in Ermita why bother with changers on the street or in other locations, just know what is the rate at the moment

last time I wondered why I bothered bringing euro's, used the pin machines and the money was exchanged in dutch rates and no additional costs

Once I was inside the Manilla airport (bank) I did chance 200 Euro that was about 13000 peso.
She gave me the money and I did count it again in front of her eyes and there was 3000 peso short, so I got angry and she gave me the 3000 peso without a blink of her eyes and no complains from her side.
So also be very carefull when you chance your money and it dont matter where or with who.
