    Hi everybody,

This is my first post and I would like to introduce myself and also to pick your brains!

I am a 50 year old male currently living in Phuket, Thailand and for various reasons I am looking to move.

I have been to Dumaguete a few weeks ago and liked the place. I am comming back in a few weeks for a more detailed look so could you guys help me out.

What are the good things and bad things about living there, where are the best spots to live and where should I avoid. Plus any other stuff that may help.

Two more things that would help. Is there somewhere I can rent a car for a reasonable price and where can I stay that is OK. I don't want to stay in a hotel I would prefer somewhere a bit more like a home from home.

Thanks in advance for all your help

One man's good is another mans bad, so that is not easy to answer. suffice to say, it's quiet here, safe, with generally friendly local citizens. There is a decent tourist scene with some action on the BVLD at night. Bands, discos, decent eateries, and girls, if that is "good" for you.

There are lots of rental aptmts, and small houses, but you have to drive around or ask around to find the bargains. I know of one place outside town a bit, that rents for 5000, but three month minimum. Again much will depend on your buget, and length of stay, good luck, and welcome.

    Thanks for that RHB.

One of my reasons for looking at Dumaguete is that my girlfriend comes from Bacolod, its OK but not for me to live in but Dumaguete is close enough for her to visit her family and far enough for them not to be on the doorstep!!.

I have just sold a nightclub here in Phuket so may be interested in a small bar or restuarant later.

I am looking at a permanent move so looking to rent for say 6 to 12 months and then either buying or building if I like the place. Also I need a house with garden as I have dogs and cats to move as well!

Maybe we will run into one another.

    Thanks again for your response.
