This is the second worst it's been in the 5 years I've been here. 4 years ago there was a string of brownouts, averaging every two hours (2 hours on, 2 hours off), which lasted for two weeks. We've now been in brownout status around 35 out of the last 96 hours.

Im not sure about this but there are rumors that the NAPOCOR lines are being fixed for some reasons. Thats the reason of the vast coverage of the brownouts, from Amlan down to Siaton, as what I heard. Expect one today. hehe.. I hope not! Its driving me crazy coz I can't visit this forum when its brownout. hehe!

From what I've heard, TRANSCO or NAPOCOR (i dont know really, sorry) is updating some of the equipment on the main power lines. Which is why the brownouts cover Amlan to Siaton.

Some have said that the brownouts will last for three days, the last one being today. But I overheard some people talking that these episodes could last until early April.

I am not so sure though. But I honestly pray that these brownouts would stop. It's not good for everybody.:(

napocor/transco's version: one of their transformers from the amlan substation is leaking. that's why there are scheduled brownouts because the load had to be shared among users. it was finally fixed (hopefully) yesterday night. so far so good.

there are also unconfirmed rumors that the substation was bombed, possibly by guerrillas.

I lived in Dumaguete for 3 weeks. The brownouts, lousy internet, security problems, and the zillion trikes and bikes was enough for me! Happy as a clam now in Pampanga! Kids outside today playing basketball, tennis, skateboarding and swimming with the other neighborhood children in a nice secure compound and it is cheaper! Well, this is just my experience, I hope everyone living in Dumaguete and the surrounding areas are happy and content. If not, then do what I did. move on

Thanks Tubigboy, good to hear that you prefer the place you now stay.
I don't know that place so I won't have any comment on that choise.
But.....it made me interested to visit it once we have the time for it.
But as you have seen our place a bit outide Dumaguete.......there are no such things as you describe :p
Once i'm there at your spot I will visit you, be assured :D

Jellyfish, that is totally correct. Once you get to Valencia or out of Dumaguete and away from the KAtrillion scooters and trikes the area becomes much nicer. Would be nice if they just put up an old trolley system in and around dumaguete. Maybe that would do away with the Kazillion scooters and trikes. An expat at Mcdoos told me that he had an accident on his motorbike or scooter and almost died. He also stated that 85% of all emergency accidents that go to the hospitals are from the trikes and scooters.

Jellyfish, just let me know when you are going to come up here. More than welcome. No brownouts up here so far! I am trying to arrange surfing lessons in La Union with my family.

    Hi TB,
interesting to read, as I would say similar things (not internet or power but other points like dirt and ash, traffic not much difference, only the trikes in Duma are for adults, not for midgets like up there...) about the 2 Cities I know in Pampanga (SF and AC). Good that opinions experiences are different.
Don't forget to give the Dane a call, I am sure he is up for 1 or 2 cold ones (I mean cases, not bottles)

    cheers

    Rhoody
