I was one of those passengers stranded yesterday due to the closure of Dumaguete port. I had to take the land trip via Sibulan - Liloan route, in order to get back to Cebu this afternoon. The closure is affecting all sectors, particularly Dumaguete's economy, and the passengers!

They now transport people to the Ducom pier in Bacong.
When I passed Bacong today (direction Zamboanguita) I thought there had been a heavy accident along the road.
But it were the transport means (taxi's, jeepneys, tricycles, mini-vans) for the people who had to embark/disembark from the private pier of the coconut mills of Ducom.
Tomorrow morning a family who will start renting our bungalow will also arrive at the Ducom pier.
Extraordinary activity for Ducom !! Passengers !!

Legislator: Pier closure to worsen problem
    By Edmund B. Sestoso

NEGROS Oriental 2nd district Representative George Arnaiz is against the closure of the Dumaguete City port.

The congressman said the decision of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) is not helping solve the problem but will in fact only worsen it, both in the economic and peace and order aspects.

Arnaiz said that what the PPA should have done was to temporarily assume or take over the handling of the arrastre and stevedoring operations at the port as it had done in previous years before the arrival of the Prudential Customs Brokerage Services Inc. at the port.

The PPA was not amenable to this, according to Arnaiz.

Mayor Agustin Perdices said he was informed that Arnaiz was talking to PPA Manager Oscar Sevilla as of Wednesday morning.

Arnaiz reminded PPA officials that port operation is a public service that should not stop for any reason even for a short period.

Tolinero also said this is the first time in his work that he encountered this labor problem at such high magnitude.

He said he never expected to get the blame for the melee at the port since he had nothing to do about it.

Tolinero, who hails from Iligan City and has served and managed ports all over the nation for 32 years, described the people in Dumaguete City as having a unique kind of bravery and outlook.

Logically, the a new pier, harbor, jetties, and docking for sailing vessels could be completed before Robinson's finishes their logistical parking lot.

So they use the Ducomi pier, and my question is:

Can I dive next month on that most beautifull place of the worls or is diving at the pier not allowed anymore.

    Greetings J.Diver

I don't think the strike will last that long. At the moment DUCOMI is closed for diving. Anyway, drop me a line when you come down, I can release you from the Karaoke Bar in the evening at...

    cheers

    all rumour

Bong Arroyo son of you know who owns the management company that just bought thr operation at Dumagute...

The local police were reluctant to take action because they knew the local stevadores and feared repercussions. Out of town military police may be called in, the time lag is neccessary because in all feuds and disagreements in the Philippines, no one wants to get hurt or lose face. The time will be taken to figure out how this can be resolved with out anyone looking bad.
Meanwhile the logical solutions go un exercised and ignored.

To nead: re your question, i am pretty sure robinsons and FF Cruz/Fressenet will find ways to circumvent this problem. These are big companies with huge connections...they'll think of ways to solve the issue.
