    Obsessed With DI

Is there any other DI member here that is as obsessed as me to this forum?:o Since, I joined a couple of weeks ago, I always found myself looking forward for a notification from DI, every chance I got. I even go to the extent of going back to the forum in the middle of something, every now and then to browse for new posts!!
I got an accident in my work a few days ago that forced me to take a leave for a few days and be confined to my bed. It’s so despairing really. So to pass away my time, my alternative is my computer. I didn’t realized my obsession until today, when I noticed that the time was already 5 pm…11 hrs straight, browsing; re-reading all my posts; logging on and off, but keeping sure that the site is open all the time!! If not for my physical treatment scheduled for today, I wouldn’t be budge from my seat…! :D
From my experimenting on clicking on every button, I came across upon one of Dane’s original post explaining about ‘sticky posts’, which until now I didn’t get the meaning yet. I was about to read it when I clicked on something and lost the thread…after clicking the back button, hoping that I might find it again but did not; I felt desperate and decided to open Dane’s profile and from there, open all his past and latest posts. Instead, I got caught linking to ‘eye-catching’ headers…and linked and linked again…It’s enormous!!
I found a lot of very interesting topics about the region that I just took for granted and some ‘food for the thoughts’ too. I also opened Rhoody’s and to be honest, also opened some of other DI member’s w/ interesting topics. I reckoned that if Dane and Rhoody involved themselves in a sticky thread, there must be an excitement going on there…just like in Why Not ( Nope, I didn’t mean the forum, but the disco place literally.:p )
I got plenty of insights from a vast list of topics…the best for me (for the time being), were the naming of ocean species and neighboring islands of EarlMJ… and there are a lot more there to read and learn. Things that I don’t have much interest in, were awakened by all the exchanging of opinions. The experience is very different when u just google or wiki for something, compared to hear someone’s opinion. It’s like someone said in one of the forums, I found myself taking the backseat…to just listen and learn. There were of course a few eye-brow raisings, but overall, it was all kind of educational (for me)…call me small mind, but I am, unfortunately. :o
So, I went to my supposed PT schedule…but while on my way home, my mind was back again to DI…then there, I realized what I’ve been doing and got worried….
Maybe too late for a question, but was it unethical for me to open someone’s profile and open all his links? This worried me very much, coz it might be misunderstood for something. It wasn’t intended for peeping, if someone may think so, but out from curiosities on what made the topic so interesting. You see this is the very first forum I joined in, so the senior members might noticed my enthusiasm to reply to almost every posts, in w/c now I thought was very petty. If you think I was over the line in my usage of the site…please just give me your pardon, okey? I promised that until you’ll say so, I won’t be opening somebody’s profile to find about their posts.
Lastly, I just want to say thank you again for bringing this site. It’s hard work!! It’s even hard for me to just compose this single letter, how much more the admins?
I thought I knew a lot about Dumaguete, because I grow there, but I was mistaken until now…:D :D

    So, more power!!

    TY

Thanks Timn8ter for the quick reply. Does that mean that i'm not theonly one? :D :D A big relief!!
But was it unethical to open from someone's profile and link from there? I'm not sure if i've opened ur profile too..but it seems that i was just linking and linking.
but now at least i hve the confidence now how to post using the go advanced and my user CP from my clicking the whole day...and if you noticed even up to now, i'm still here. eek: :D

Profiles are not set private (or are there options?) so I believe everybody should feel free to 'sneak' into them. Same applies to web-links.

I felt the same way too when I found this sight mommyseksi! I went bilistic! I was so excited that FINALLY I found explanations to things that I wondered about and noticed and even learned so MUCH MORE that I didn't know about DUMA in all the travels back/forth in volunteering in DUMA for over 15 years. It is so wonderful to have a site to go to and especially to keep in touch with what is happening in DUMA since it is so close to my heart. It is great that you grew up in DUMA and can help add insight to topics that foreigners like myself just don't grasp but would like to. Communication is so important in relationships and it is difficult to keep a good relationship between varying cultures especially when so much is never explained and neither party is able to do so without offending another. In this forum it is easier to ask questions and have others freely answer and explain without fear of hurting a dear friend.

Hi there Cyndi. How r u? Yeah, ‘balistic’ must be the right word LOL !!
It must be what I felt…:D to the point that I recommended the site right away to my colleagues at work who love to travel to the neighboring Bali and to my bro-in-law who’s so crazy w/ Dgte. In fact, he’s more excited to go home than my sister is :D .

Yes, I’m from the real heart of Dgte, until I graduated from elem grades then continued my schooling in Mla. But ever since, I’m always in Dgte every semestral breaks and summer vacations…aside from my mother and paternal relatives, I still have a lot of best friends who are based there. Sure, I cld ask them abt the latest news and improvements in Dgte if I want to, but it’s still different to just open the DI website and click. Right?...then you’ll realized that your boring day is swiftly gone…oh, maybe I am just over-reacting, but what the heck? I might as well enjoy it while it lasts, coz I’ll be going back to work again tomorrow :p . Sigh!

14 – 15 yrs ago, I stayed for at least 6 months there…the longest vacation I admit I ever had… And Dgte was very different then. Sta Monica, the Southseas and El Oriente were our favorite beach spots before ..Honeycomb and Why Not for a night out and straight to the tocino at Kang Manang’s!! Yeah, we love Kang Manang’s ever since during our High School days, when she just started her tocino stall at the blvd..but now look at her? And I’m sure all the students who graduated here, all knew Kang Manang’s, and I’m bet you too.(Oh, sld have added her to the Dumaguete Must Try Thread

And you’re right about the mis-communications in culture. We’re aware that we humans, has a very long history of wars even ever since our fore-forefathers partly because of misunderstandings between culture and religion, as what Timn8ter had said…but the Teach, was even right when he said about the racism issue.… one time I even coppied all my posts and the exchanges just to review it in my own time, checking that I’m saying it right without hurting the feeling of the ones concern. We are just in a forum and cld not avoid the misunderstandings exchanged between the lines. I’m a Filipina and here living in Japan. A nation w/c still opens sensitive bitter memories for my grandmother and even to my father, uncles and aunties alike who witnessed the WWII. It was a very big taboo before for my family for me to marry a Japanese, to think that one of my uncle died during that war. But my husband has proven his worth..so everyone avoided talking about anything in the past infornt of my husband to avoid insulting him. Everything works well.

We are the new generation after the war, so i considered everything is all in the past and learn the story from it…so, I am very carefull threading on that thin ice of Religion and Race issue…

I have sons, who despite of their easy life and friends here in Japan, still prefer the phil/dgte to mingle w/ the kids on the blocks. They’re half fil- jap, and prune to scrutiny wherever they go. Whether here in Japan or in the Phil..or even maybe in the states. Pride and prejudice is always everywhere… can not be avoided. The only thing I could do is to stay away from the issue and hope that it won’t be misunderstood as uncaring…it’s a very, very sensitive issue that one single blurt could led to something very, very ugly.

Anyway, do you still visit Dgte often? You must have a very interesting occupation as a volunteer. I so admire people like u. Imagine. A volunteer? So, unselfish… and not to forget, even this site…it’s free!! Free service for Dumaguete City and the people…a very admiring job.

So pls feel free to ask anything…and let’s see if I have the answers…ok?

Everything is public unless it is hidden, don't put anything in your profile unless you want others to see it.
all posts a public, unless a moderator hides them, which he or she can do.
some forums allow you to hide certain info IE: email, real name, age, birthday etc.
Always check the FAQs of any forum and its rules before joining. Always go to the user CP and set your preferences first.

It is not invading privacy to use any of the forum functions.
In most forums the moderators can watch your edits, be careful, they can sometinmes (if online) see you type your posts.
Trolls are traceble by IP address usually, sometimes if they use a proxy server it is more difficult, but Rhoody has a handle on who is who and usually he gives them enough rope to hang themselves.

Moderators can not read PMs but they know when they are sent in some cases.

If you get a strange or a malicious PM tell Rhoody or Kim right away.

Feeding and manipulating trolls can be fun, just don't get caught up emotionally in it, (unless you enjoy getting upset at a computer monitor) if you finf yourself breathing hard and typing fast, stop take a breath and ask yourself, Why?

Keep in mind some members may have two or more logins, with two personalities or more. This goes for admins as well!

If you think you always know who your talking to, well maybe you don't.

Except for the often posted valuble information on this forum, which maybe is opinion biased, but of good use to potential visitors, any forum is just so much hot air, it is not reality, it is virtual, know the difference.

Finally, racial, cultural, and sexual bias is normal, not always pleasant, but it is the reality in the world. A typed note is devoid of inflection or tone, may easily be misconstrued or amplified. It is very difficult to communicate verbal nuances when typing. Given that the posters here are from many different cultures, with many different ways of thinking, it works quite well,

just consider posting as if you sitting across the table from someone, would you really say that? Probably in some cases not, the veil of anonymity is empowering, and can be corrupting.

On the other hand it is liberating for some to say what they want, whenever they want, to whomever they like. Don't take it personally, it's a forum,

Now if I could only take my own advice:D

    ..and NO DOUBLE POSTING!!:p

    mommseksi,

I appreciate your comments about the new generation not being held accountable for the previous generation. As an American I'm painfully aware of the bad things the US government has done to other nations, including the Philippines. I would like the ability to visit other countries without being cast in the light of bad foreign policy that I had nothing to do with. Very few nations are innocent as you well know.
I don't want to start a political discussion here so please, if anyone reading this comment is compelled to fire back with political statements feel free to send me a PM.
