    Hello Jeyaiy,

    Welcome to Dumagueteinfo.
All Resorts who have a diveshop are running a program which is called "Discover Scuba". This is a experience program for non-divers to find out if they like it or not. It takes about 2 - 3 hours. This is no Scuba certification but can give credit toward the full "Open Water-Diver" Certification. The prices for that are different and start from 30 to 60 US$. Depending on Diveshop, Location and general price-standard of the resort.

Some Diveshops also offer once in a month a "under-water-experience" for free. You can see some pictures on that Link of the last one Dumagueteinfo made with the help of Mikes Adventure diveshop in Dumaguete. All of the participants survived and had big fun. Some of them went to an ocean dive next day and even did the OW course.
I am sure you will love it. But don't try to catch all the Nemo's ;-).
Where in Pampanga do you stay? I am up there quite sometimes to visit my Partners, maybe we can have a coke light one day.

    cheers

    Rhoody

Bahura is a nice place, but like you said quite pricey (with not really good food and warm drinks, but cold coffee)... I hope you can life without power and fresh-water most of the time in Apo as it is very basic there.
I think Apo is a great place for one or two nights, but thats just my opinion.
How long do you stay in Dumaguete all together?

    cheers

My girlfriend did the "discover dive' when we were in Moal Boal. She really enjoyed it. I think the cost was 2000pesos. This included all the rental equipment and clothing. She spent a short time in the classroom learning some basic safety stuff. Then it was into the swimming pool where she learnt all about the equipment and then carried out some basic safety moves underwater, and then after lunch she had the fun dive with the instructor by her side. She really enjoyed it and now she is taking her Open water certification in 2 weeks time in Dumaguete

Give it a try, I'm sure you will enjoy it

    Martin

    If you have quicktime

on your computer, this was her first discovery dive with her instructor. She was very nervous at the start (just like me when I did mine) but after 5 minutes underwater she started to relax and really enjoy herself. now she cannot wait to go again

you will need quicktime to watch it

If someone has never learned to swim, but is neither scared of the water nor taken the time to learn to swim, ....they can still learn to dive, right? Or do they pretty much go hand in hand? I can sink like a rock, but put flippers on me, and maybe I can rise to the top??? I often ask stupid questions that pop into my noggin and this question happens to be the latest one.

It is a performance requirement for the Open-Water-Certification to "float" 10 minutes and to swim 200 meters (or snorkel 300m). There is no time limit in that.

    cheers
