I am not too excited about Robinson's Mall as the owners are not from Dumaguete. This means that most of the profit will come from money spent by Dumaguetenios and environs and will go to the pockets of people in Manila(?). Maybe I'll window shop but I will surely patronize the Mom and Pop shops, the Duma public market and local businesses like Cang's who will likely spend their profits in Dumaguete. Just my opinion. I imagine RM to be like a giant vacuum cleaner sucking the financial juices from this area.

That is a one sided view of it, and rather simplistic. If you look at the big picture, the development of other services and small ancillary bussinesses will grow the community, not drain its resources. Infrstructure improvements alone will benifit the area.

    From what nead posted
looks like my predictions are true
the mall will set the destruction ball rolling
first the mall then a hideous 16 storey building and then its countdown to doomsday.
even in countries like Norway with strict environmental laws they cannot control pollution of the sea from big towns
Dumaguete still has no waste water treatment plant
any growth is always thus going to be bad for the envt which comes last in economics.
enjoy the clear waters of apo etc now
they won't be there for long

Robinson's in Tacloban is due to be completed by the end of the year. Wonder what that will do to their tourism....

The new Robonsons will only be worse I would suspect
we would get even more crap Like TGI FRidays which is basically just a Macdonalds that tries to act sophisticated. Ie mass produced artificail food heated up in microwave and then they charge you with a hige overrpriced bill.
Lets have more hayahays even with the long nose tax and restuarants like le chalet serving good quality fresh food with some ambience and class
