Congrats and welcome! You will want to go to the Foreigner supermarket heaven at Lee's Super Plaza where it has a HUGE selection. You will find the smaller markets are great too once you get settled. Hypermart is better and has less people traffic. Good luck!

to make it simple... for a foreigner NOT used to live here, you will find no real food, no place to go shopping and only 2 or 3 restaurants which may be ok. for a foreigener without expectations you go aroud the corner and find ALL you need in a SariSari shop...

..Good Day to you Cyndi, ... & thankyou for your kind response . I don't think the culture-shock from Tennessee to Dumaguete' will be half of what I experienced moving from Brooklyn to Tennessee ...Dumaguete' will be a serious upgrade...lol . Lee's Super Plaza will be our 1st stop.....Maraming Salamat Matapat ....Paul

    Rhoody,

That is such TRUE and WISE advice to all foreigners that visit DUMA. I am ashamed to admit it but I had made many short trips to DUMA to volunteer and until I really lived there and started cooking filipino foods and learning THEIR ways I had a BAD attitude and complained I couldn't ever find what I liked. HELLO! I never really bothered to try different samplings of food at simple normal filipino food places. I asked my friends how to food shop in public markets and how to cook. I finally CHANGED MY ATTITUDE (the food always exsisted) and was humbled by my meger poverty budget to force me to wisen up. I now LOVE filipino food and miss it so much. In fact, this weekend I am headed to Chicago and my friend's filipina born and raised mom asked what I wanted to eat and I am begging her to cook filipino food for me. I know that she must laugh at me since her own American raised filipino son won't eat it. LOL! Life is a matter of perspectives and being OPEN to new ideas/views/people. My philosophy is when in the Philippines.......do as the filipinos do! hehehe It certainly has worked very well for me.
