I noticed when I visited last time that all the bars I visited and the Why Not Disco were all very quiet (nosie levels not customer numbers).

Is there a local government policy on noise within the City limits? I can't remember going to a disco where you can converse with everyone at normal conversation levels. Agreed most are to noisy but a little volume does help with the atmosphere.

Even Haymahay was pretty quiet. So are there any places that have a bit more bite?

No I was serious. The bars and clubs in Phuket thump out noise at a huge decibel rate and in theroy there is a legal limit of, I belive, 89/90 decibels but no one takes any notice.

The bars etc there did seem pretty quiet by comparison.

Anyway apart from the boulevard where else is there open till late?

I am sure you are right, but it's funny as it is a common joke that noise from karaoke bars knows no limits here in the Philippines. Actually they do supposedly have testing equipment for noise levels but no one ever sees them using it.
Dumaguete is no Phuket, that's for sure. the why not is as loud as it gets inside any BVLD place, I think...

The only other place for foreigners is the girlly bar strip by the airport, low key here too, only a few places.

Dumaguete is what you saw, very quiet as a rule.

I think the sound level at Why Not and other places on the Boulevard is just fine...then again, some people may say I'm an old fart...

It depends where you sit in Why not as to the decibel level. the really irritating thing is when the disc jockey starts singing along...

I prefer to sit at the bar. from there I can survey if there are any cuties on the dance floor. I can also check that the barmaids are wearing the uniform short skirt...
