Featured in Island Magazine in July last year

Yeah, whatever happened; Dumaguete and Negros Oriental featured "The 20 Best Island to live on" list in Island Magazine abroad last July of 2007. :(

I don't normally pay attention to the reputation thing here, but I was on my user CP the other day, and some one actually gave me a red mark for my comment three posts up! Now who would do that? :D

I am glad dumaguete is not included. We want tourists, not more strangers living in our neighborhood...

I guess you are too short minded to understand that most places tourists stay are owned by strangers investing Millions of dollars/Euros in Duma

...and even this little playground here is provided to you by 3 strangers who investing money and a lot of time into Dumaguete

as for both of the above you guys who want the tourists and insulting the strangers are not really capable to do provide something half way professional (accommodation and information)...

So you don't like strangers, but you want short term tourists yes? sorry things don't work that way, if the strangers leave you won't get much of either, since you have 50% living below the poverty line, I think you need strangers like dracula needs blood!!!!

Between January to February 2008, I was swapped at our Metro Manila branch for three weeks. Here's what I noticed:

If you'd like to pay P14 for a smaller tricycle (compared to ours here, I doubt if big foreigners would fit) for a distance of a little over a kilometer ride and a regular meal (one cup rice and one viand) in a sidewalk karinderya for at least P40, live in Pasig. Servings are so small that I ended up eating most of the time at Chow King and KFC (almost twice the karinderya cost but at least I'm full). Same thing goes for Mandaluyong.

Prices in Makati are even higher, didn't bother spending there, just moved on to Pasay and Paranaque to visit a few shops.

Karinderyas in Quezon City are slightly cheaper, for a similar meal at Pasig ang Mandaluyong counterparts, you pay at least P35. With P50, I'm already full. Fare is the same however.

Marikina food is definitely the cheapest in the area. Don't know how much one cup rice and one serving viand would cost but three of us ate heavily at Dampa sa Marikina with fresh seafoods for less than P500. We even had to bring home some of the dishes we didn't touch because we were already full. Cost of living and office rentals here are also cheaper compared to nearby cities (don't ask me prices, an officemate who lives there just mentioned it in passing).

Baguio, well, as usual, has the cheapest vegetables. I wouldn't know about prices now since I didn't spend a penny there for food and fare, courtesy of my relatives. :D

Nearby La Trinidad has cheaper food, comparable here. There was this restaurant, not sure about the name, Jack's or something. Anyway, one big cup rice, 2 big fried chicken servings, vegetables (one big serving, not the anemic version you get from some other cities) and a bottle of soda costs less than P100 (again, forgot the price since i didn't pay for it). :D

Only passed Angeles and San Fernando on the way to Baguio and back so no comment.

Last year 2007, can't remember if it was October or November, we went to Iloilo for a few days vacation. We went by car to Bacolod then took a fastcraft to Iloilo. Bacolod was gloomy and cold but during previous visits, Bacolod is one hot place, probably even hotter than Cebu.

Iloilo port and nearby barangays are old, not as clean compared here in Dumaguete. Roads are mostly two lanes, like here. And when it rains, a lot of places are flooded and water would take a day or two to subside when the sun finally shows up.

Bacolod food is slightly cheaper than Iloilo.

    Let's keep Dumaguete a secret, hehehe! :D
