Coymanos, I don't need to repeat what others here already mentioned.
But for your confidence maybe this will help a bit:
I gave my GF diving lessons some years ago when I met her in Sabang.
She was very enthousiastic to learn diving (she had seen many of my under-water videos).
As an instructor I forgot a basic rule to first ask her about her swimming capabilities :o (we only had some time together in an undeep swimming pool where she was NOT afraid of being under water).
After 3 lessons in the swimming pool (snorkeling and later geared up with divetank, regulator etc..) she had an acceptable performance and learned the basic theory.
First time in the sea we only went till 4 to 6 meter (I had to bring her up higher regularly because she was so enthousiastic to go 'behind the fishes' and going deeper).
She did pretty well.
Some weeks later she told me that she never knew how to swimm until I gave her the first snorkeling lessons !
Since then she swimms like a fish even without snorkel, mask and fins.
There is hope for you :D
