RHB is Expat, but chained to his Karaoke machine....
Echir local, I adjusted well, as I cant hang out with those guys at Coco or Anabel. I prefer Bearfoot, Hayahay and El Camino, Mikes Diveshop at the boulevard is also nice as there are no typical Expats.
I do believe in the DI family wherever anybody of us comes from, and I dont care what color the skin has and what stamp is in the passport.
I see a good development the last month and weeks, things will take time and will work out. Just PM me your cell-number and txt you when we meet and put your beer on my bill... hehe (ask Archon how he ended up once...)

    cheers

    Rhoody

I am an Expat, but I live in Barangay Taclobo with filipinos as neighbors. I don't hang out at expat places as a rule, well, because Ading, my asawa and i operate a small Sari Sari, Drinking establishment and Karaoke place. Native style, modest, and unpretentious. We live next door, not in a locked compound with other expats. We cater to a Filipino clientel in the evening, generally singing, but not always. We have a few Expat friends who drop by for cold beer mostly in the afternoon, but sometimes at night.

I practice what i preach and try to fit in, welcoming all folks who walk in. Even Rhoody. I have noticed if there are expats already sitting, sometimes the local crowd becomes shy. One time two filipinos stood outside and would not enter. Ading the ever friendly person invited them to sit. They assumed the prices were too high for them because their were foreigners inside! When she assured them that we had Filipino prices, they joined the crowd.

One thing I have learned it takes time to really know Filipinos, You never know who you might be talking to regardless of appearance. We have students, Phd's, Judges, Police, shop workers, government officials, and neighbors joining us daily. I have learned so much from my experience about the culture.

Most of the Expats who stop in share my view on mixing with the local population, it is the way it should be. On the Bvld you will no doubt run into other types of expats, and that's why I don't go there myself much, it embarrases me to be associated with some of them and be judged similar.

    Stop in and say hello.

Thanks for letting me know you better RHB and Ma'am Ading.
Can't promise when but I will drop by at your place someday. I'm really poor in PR ( even with locals)but loves to welcome Expats to our place and grateful for what you've done here at DI forum. Well so far I haven't met any rude Expat yet. I've talked to one at lee's while I went shopping last Christmas. It was a nice short chat with him.
God Bless RHB and Ma'am Ading.

funny i mistook you for a local. my husband and i even argued on your nationality coz i really thought you are a local based on your views regarding changes in dgte. had he not read all your posts and 'decoded' your way of writing then i'd be damned for my assumption. hehe. hopefully we can get back soon there and maybe sing a couple of songs in your place.

I'm not a local although I hope to be able to integrate that well that others treat me as a local (with only a long nose and white skin  ).
But honestly I don't expect that to happen easily. There are simply some differences which you can't deny and honestly .....it's no problem for me at all that there are differences.
It makes live much more interesting in my opinion.
But I sincerely hope that more locals can discard their shyness in contacting expats/foreigners. I'm glad I met some already who did so.
IMHO no need for first forming a group. That's what I also don't want to have for Expats: no group building. Just be yourself and try to meet friends whatever their skin, religion, wallet, age, sex (really ? ) etc...
But who am I to tell you that it can't work easier for Filipino's to first have that 'internal' contact.
One big DI family ..... with hopefully a lot of family meetings :D :D
I could not be there last Saturday. Had to meet another big family in Guimaras to celebrate the Fiesta there which was great (but tiring  ).

Excellent conversation. This is one of those many thoughtful conversations that helps people like me understand a bit more. Maybe with Rhoody making these regular meetings for people, that both the expat and regular population will grow and also become closer.

With the concept of grouping, I don't mean that there should be a divide between Expat and Locals. No, my Aim is for one Big DI family but I hope that you consider that many of us locals have the same predicament right now of meeting the expats alone in a cozy place we are not used to. Its the fear of being uncomfortable without the other locals present.:o . I do have a white brother in law and find it interesting to talk to him, sharing informations and jokes and doing crazy stuffs lolz. For what you've done here in this forum, I think we (locals) should do our part as well. Its just a matter of time. As what Rhoody would say.

    Cheers and mabuhay.

Actually we had 2 meetings in Hayahay before, I guess a place where you guys are familiar with and also none showed up. I am not sure when we make the next meeting as I am quite disappointed about many peoples (expats and locals) words here, which turned out to be a lot of Bola and nothing else....
