Let me know if screw this up. I have found my girl, been over there to visit her and her family. hired a usa law firm to get us through the paperwork.
I'm not sure yet if we will live in the philippines or usa. We will start here in vermont usa and see if she likes it. City girl into the country setting. We can live here without either of us working but we would have to be careful with our dollars. Over there we could live quite well on my income and savings. Anyone care to share their thoughts with us?

I reckon you'll find she'll be quite happy to work at almost anything, and maybe train for a better job, once you get her there...it's their way - good chance she'll be expected to do some family support....Vermont...hell, I'd almost marry you to live there. Really nice place.....stayed up the road in Maine for a while years ago and traveled around a bit in New England. Nice area. Good luck and have a great life!

    Welcome to this forum bigal46.
Sharing thoughts about this subject is always possible, but it looks to me very difficult to make the right interpretations of thoughts.
Everyone has such a different situation: different familily backgrounds, ages, finances, cultures, religions, etc etc. and secondly has different emotional luggage, experiences abroad etc etc.
Without knowing that well enough one could easily draw wrong conclusions.
It looks to me that you are starting carefully, which is certainly not wrong.
You are in my opinion in a much more comfortable situation than many others, since you seem to be able to (financially) manage as well living 'back home' or 'at her place'.
Yes, if you can adapt yourself to live your life here (without your family and good old friends around you, and she with hers) , a lot of things are (financially) tremendously easier.
Why not testing for some time ? Can you live here ?
If not, you have the means to try back home.
The reversed way is as well possible, it seems.
Good luck. I hope my input has any value to you. Wish you luck !

    Hi Bigal,

Congratulations on finding your mate and I'm sure soon to be wedding!

IMHO you screwed up hiring a law firm to handle your paper work. You will have to do most of it anyway. But I understand your thinking in getting help through the maze of paper and laws in both countries. visajourney.com is a very good web site for those of us that have been thru what you and your fiancee are beginning.

This will take several months to get thru this, so just relax and don't get too anxious about anything that happens.

This is an outstanding group and there is lots of good info as well as some good natured ribbing.

As for living in US or PI, that is a personal choice obviously. As for me and my sweetie, we plan on moving back to PI as soon as we can get some things established here that will have good residual income.

Again, congratulations and best wishes to you and your honey.
