I agree with you Rhoody 100% that maybe diving is just not for anybody and that includes me.

During the enrollment process, PADI staff / instructors should have told me what the pre-requisites are and should have asked me if I have those skills. Since I'm not a good swimmer and has not done those pre-requisites in my life for the last 20 years ( though I made the 200 meters as hard as I can MIRACULOUSLY )...I could have just said " forget it..I'm OUT! "

My mistake was paying my fees in full and bought $2400 worth of goods like Atomic mask, snorkels, Henderson Hyperstretch 3mm wetsuit, Aqualung slingshot fins and pre-ordered DC800 underwater camera (thats all I wanna do underwater...take pictures )

Maybe if I had just paid my down payment of $50, they'll probably let me go and that would have been very FAIR to me because I could always come back later after getting some swimming lessons. I'm in no rush to get certified anyway.

Bottom line, the LDS/dive center just wanna suck me into the process because I'm a valued customer for buying top of the line stuff in their store before telling me - YOU DON'T BELONG IN THIS SPORT!

On the contrary, I was good in the confined diving skills and even better than those 17 year olds ( who can tread and swim very well ) where one picked up an empty tank and dived! Another one surfaced in panic because she doesn't know how to neutralize the " squeeze ".

I learned from my mistakes and just a warning to Scuba Diver wannabes....know the pre-requisites first and make sure you have those skills / or practice before you enroll. Don't let them suck your money first and then spit you out telling you - YOU DON'T BELONG HERE!

And I hope Rhoody and other DI's will also be honest enough to tell their future students in the face - YOU DON'T BELONG HERE if they don't have the skills! It maybe bad for business but a very honorable gesture.

PLEASE POST MORE.... you're posts crack me up, that are the funniest ones we had here since a long long time.

the prerequesits before being certified are clear defined YOU even posted them here.
again it is for being CERTIFIED. not for enrolling (page 4 OW manual and your own quote.... learn reading). If somebody is working so hard on it (like you said in your first post) and still can't make should take it as clear signal and a given that Water is the WRONG environment for you.

But who in the wide wide world of sport is that naive and spends some thousand dollar on underwater-camera and equipment without knowing if you are able to do things.

DON'T blame anybody but yourself, man.
If you havwe some more money to spend I can give you my bank account number, I share with jellyfish...

Hey I booked a trip to Nepal for mountain trecking, when I arrived there my knees were shaking as I am afraid of altitude. Everything what is higher than a case of Beer scares the sh*t out of me....
And you know what the bad bad agency did not give me my money back.

Nobody told me that mountains have something to do with altitude.... I will sue them....

How naive and blindfolded can somebody be,
or slowly I think you are a bloody Troll. NOBODY is THAT STUPID !!!

Please wake me up ,this cannot be thrue
These kind of (divers) are the one that I dont want to dive with and that is why I always dive alone in site of a group.

I pay 30 dollars a dive and dont want to be a nanny (buddy) for someone who even dont have the skills to swim.
And than complain why they dont told him before that he is not capable to be a diver.

You can only blame yourself and nobody els

Yes. But then the way to go is not to let the requirements be more simple and easyli done.

One place has the line to be drawn, and my meaning is that a person who cannot
stay floating in 10 minutes in sea. Havent anything to do there as a diver either. To be able to swim at the surface in 10 minutes before sinking and drowning.
    Cause
Because when sh*t hits the fan, you need the ability.
And I wonder if you ever will find a experienced diver who disaggree.

Of course the requirements ro any resque courses have to be more strict than RECREATIONAL DIVING. But it is difficult to swim when there is almost no water. In any given situation it is then better to walk insted of swimming.
But believe me that I have had a lot of fun in diving communities when telling this story. And the best is that I have witnesses.:D

I aggre with you at one point. I dont like the PADI business model or filsofy either.
Probably thats also why we're joking them with the expression that PADI means "Pay And Die Immediately"
Of course they should let you take the required tests free of charge.

For you I honestly mean that you should not give up and practise training to stay floating the required 10 minutes.Cause this has not with swimming skills to do. It has to do with your "wellfeelin" in open water. It has to do with the way you breathing there. And when you get this "feelin" it is simple.
