I am new to this forum but not quite new to Dumaguete. Actually my filipina wife comes from Cebu but after visiting first time in 1995 we have drawn to this slow pace island of Negros. It is now almost 3 years since we last visited so we are all excited to go back to the Philippines for possible settlement in August this year. I have seen from your forum that the new Robinson mall is on its way. Are the pedicabs still rulig in town, or are the rising gasoline prices participating to their extinction? Don't get me wrong - I welcome the practicality but even us Americans can accept to wait 1 minute for transport, in exchange for less pollution...

Yes I thought so, and good news if the 2-strokes are finally scrapped. What about car prices in Dumaguete? People I met before advised me to buy car in Cebu because they were considerably more expensive in Dumaguete. I also remember one told me that most "new" cars were right-handers converted in a back yard repainted Japanese rejects. Is that really the case? I have a budget of max. 700,000 for a car. Maybe it can pay off buying the car in Manila and drive it down to the Visayas? It can be an interesting trip. If anyone has had that experience I would be glad to hear if it was worth the while.
