    Who does'nt ?
But I think the main concern is that nobody wants to be overloaded by news articles.
It's a matter of selection of items which are of real interest for assumably most of the forum members.

Almost ALL nations restrict the privilege of foreigners to work in competition with their own citizens. Is this not a major issue in your part of the USA?

    Bad news!

    2 men stage store robbery

Two unidentified armed robbers barged into a store near midnight Monday and carted away cash and valuables estimated to cost P100,000 in Barangay Taclobo, Dumaguete City .

Victim Eduarda Tinambacan, 40, owner of Ading's Store told the police that the robbers stole her three cellphones and more than P1,000 in cash.

Others who also lost their valuables were Jeymary Jayme, 18, and American John Ferstile, 61, one cellphone each, P5,000 in cash, wallets with driver's licenses, a laptop computer worth P79,000, game pad, softwares, earphone and other documents, the police said.

Initial police investigations disclosed that the victims were about to close the store when the suspects casually walked inside, and at gunpoint announced a hold-up.

The suspects are in their early 30's and at least 5 feet 5 inches tall, and were wearing baseball caps, covered their faces with handkerchiefs, and carried pistols, the police said.

One of the suspects hit the hand of Jaime with the gun, police added.

Meanwhile, an 11-year-old boy and his mother recovered a watch worth P12,000 stolen from him last weekend at Barefoot, Piapi beach, Dumaguete City .

Police named the suspects as Rey Avanzado and Carl Sanico, both 21, of Poblacion, Sibulan town, Negros Oriental.*RG

Now if I would have posted this, I would have been blasted as a "rumor monger", trying to make Dumaguete look bad and having an "agenda of scaring folks". After all, crime only happens to those few individuals that are naive enough to go out at night and flash expensive items!

    A good one Shadow
I can imagine your reaction to this.

I was in first instance shocked when reading the name of that store.
A bit later I realized that it is a 'real' store and not the sari-sari store with that same name which several of us do know.
RHB will be shocked as well I guess. Or not John ?

Speaking of crime, are there still 'brown outs' occuring in Dumaguete? I heard that the geo-thermal plant had shut down. Is this true? We have occasional brown outs up here in Pampanga (maybe 2 a month) and they usually last for 30 minutes. It mainly happens if there is big thunderstorm.

Yes, there are still occasional brownouts. No, that rumor is false, the geothermal is going strong, and just about to be expanded.

    Thanks! 'Only the shadow knows!'

Marty your son should be able to get work here in the Philippines. He would need to do some paperwork with the Philippine Government. Heck, he might want to look into representing a foreign company in the Philippines. I would suggest going to the chamber of commerce (US and European). Maybe get into the import/export business?
