I noticed this posted in the Dumaguete Quick City Guide page:

"Majority of the population speak English fluently and can understand a little Spanish. Aside from English and Filipino, Dumagueteños speak Cebuano (Visaya), Tagalog and Ilonggo dialects. Ilonggo is their native tongue."

While all the languages referred to above are spoken in Dumaguete, the wording is not quite accurate. Dumagueteños generally speak Cebuano (Visayan) as their native tongue, not Ilonggo. It is the same with almost all of Negros Oriental except for the border towns or areas like Basay.

Dumaguete people speak Cebuano mainly. But they, or we, speak English too widely.

Very little Spanish, and microscopic Ilonggo!

Thanks for the correction Rhoody...

I miss DGT... hope I can be back sooner than Christmas time where I normally visit...

To be precise, we in DGT speak the Dumaguete dialect of the Cebuano (Visayan) language...

here is the difference betwen the dumaguete dialect and cebu dialect
dumagute speaks just like the way cebuanos in the southern part of cebu speaks

    cebu -----dumaguete

    waa ------ wala

    daa ------ dala

    saa ----- - sala
