We are currently living in the city, but thinking of moving out to Dauin perhaps next year.

My questions are 1) internet--what internet service is out there? I saw some heated discussions here on IT Outlook. Is internet service still lacking overall in Dauin, or is there a new and improved service available since then? 2) Electricity--there is some brownout here in the city. Is brownout more frequent out in Dauin, or about the same as in the city? 3) Water--is there piped water available in Dauin, or do you get it from private wells?

We obtain internet connection thru a cellphone, unless you have a tower for $600US(antenna) thru IT. Cell phone is sloooooooooow where we are at the beach.
We have more brown outs at Dauin. If you are along the hwy you get better
    connection heavier power.
We get water from our well, however most folk obtain their H20 thru the hoses that are coming out of the mountain.
Best to go to the perspective places that you wish to live here, we are not that far out.
Good luck, you'll enjoy this place!

    Thanks for the reply kinhason,
The location I have in mind is near the eldorado resort and is along the highway.

1)Do you think for this location, the brownouts are similar to the city center, or worse? Seems like you are saying that along the highway has less brownouts than more "inlands" of Dauin.

    2) Internet through cellphone? Wow. Is that the only option? I went to an internet cafe near a restaurant called "Little Italy", somewhat near eldorado, and they said they use smart wirelss. I am assuming smartbro. Do you know anything about smartbro in Dauin? This is one area I am scared about regarding the possible move to Dauin. The internet connection.

3)When you say hose from the mountain, do you mean that people have to go where the hose is, and fill the water and bring back to their houses? I think I saw some people doing this. What I was hoping for was a waterpipe connection to some sort of municipal water source. I am hoping that pipe connection would be available at least along the highway?

Yes, I am hoping these things work out, so that I can live in Dauin.

    Situation here in Dauin.

I live here in Dauin not far from Eldorado. Here is what I have observed over the past 2 years:

    1) Brownouts seem to occur about once a week, most frequently on Sundays (double overtime pay for the workers?). Sometimes they last 30 seconds and sometimes 2 or 3 hours. I'm told that this is due to the upgrading to the main "trunk" line and installing sub-stations. It's tolerable.

2)SmartBro works thru a small transceiver (4500 pesos) that you mount on your rooftop. I have >99% uptime 1km south from the tower (which is very close to Eldorado). I am very happy w/ my bandwidth which I have measured at 200-400kbps. The cost is p999/month.

    3) I use a well but some neighbors have gotten permits from the mayor, for a few hundred pesos per year (that include trash pickup) to tap into the municipal system by running 1/2" lines down from the highway. You pay for the fittings and line of about 300 meters. There is a plumbing supply shop right in the Dauin market that carries these items and does the install. It is a gravity system and not pressurized. I have heard mixed remarks about its reliability but most seem happy. There is a high water table near Eldorado so I'd imagine you wouldn't have to go so very deep to find ample supply with a well. Maybe the best option would be to use a combination of the two. An honest local engineer, who built my system, that you can consult is Jesse Lucero +639106664976.

    Hope this is helpful.

    Thank you for the reply.
That answers all my questions quite clearly!
Regarding the few hundred pesos for the municipal line, what is the water charge per cubic meter? Is the water potable?

    dauin water

There is currently no metering or charge for your consumption volume--You are limited by availability and pressure thru a 1/2" line only. I suppose that during dry season there would be less available. There is a huge reservoir under construction above town to ensure future supply. I have tested only the groundwater for quality (excellent per Provincial Hospital) but my neighbors are generally happy w/ municipal.

Great, sounds like a workable situation.

Did you build your own house there in Dauin?
