Can fully understand your disappointment, Rhoody.
When I read how many do promise or suggested at least to come and how many show up. (I PM'ed you I could not come this last time)

Maybe an idea is to make a list-posting.
Each member who will attend the "get-together-evening" adds his name at that list.
You later publish that final list and add to it the reality (who showed up).
Maybe it does refrein people from too easy saying to come.
It's not nice for the effort of the organizer but surely also not for the people who own the venue and have possibly taken special arrangements (like very very very cold beer in hugh quantities :D )
But it is surely also a matter of an early announcement of the date, so people can tune their agendas if they are really interested to be present.
Pls, give it once a try Rhoody

    Hi, Tom
That was a good post you made to welcome me to the forum; sorry I didnt make a reply sooner... I have been in and out of town for a while.
It was interesting you asked how the locals feel about the expat population in general? We have seen a big influx of expats the last decade, some had adjusted to the local life, others have not. We have heard expats complain about some things (cultural difference) here, but the locals do not generally come out to give retorts or answers.
You ask What do you think the most important thing an expat can do to help be apart of the community? I am sure many of these expats are skilled in some ways, so it would be good if they can look around ask see where their talents and skills can be put to good use; there are many organizations they can volunteer their time and skills. many locals do volunteer work in addition to their regular work...
I would welcome any other questions you would be asking...
