Well there are a couple schools of thought on this rent and you are mobile you can move around see things find the right place stay for a while then transfer again. But for me I want to buy my own home and business building. This is not so much for me but for my wife I want to leave something behind for her. You really should think for you woman’s future what will she have when you are gone. My Filipina means the world to me, to think when I am gone and she would have to turn to another for her care is too much for me bear. So I will buy and build a good life for the both of us when I am gone she will have to never worry" what do I do now."

well I appreciate your good heart, but to have a house and a business building is a security or preparation that your wife have a good future when you are gone.I dont think so.The main is she can stand herself without you, means she had a job, she had a capability to run the business herself without you(many businesses just gone in the wind when the husband died because the wife dont know how to handle the business),or she receive a pension. The house what is the house , it will also gone easily once she dont have a permanent income herself. The main is she had a pension when you die that is enough then she will be safe (will not get hungry).Anyway you don't have children, renteng a house or apartment from the pension money(when you die) is also not bad because she is alone.

I myself prefer to rent my partner all ready has her own land she comes from farming stock and does no how to look after herself. Daff is right about business falling apart after the hubby dies, I have seen that very often. Pensions are of course the best options in most cases, but if the wife or family where already into business as my partner was before I met here, its should be safe in investing in businesses the wife can handle especially when she is good at organising and with money.

My plan is to invest in my partners parents farm of which we have already started to do. I thought it best to look at my partners talent and to that odds she has many, from dress making and sewing, shell art, designing and making Jewlry, cooking, weaving, a beautician and good at farming. If we invest in our partners future it should be something that they are good at.

Like most Filipina's my partner want to have a shop and she already invested her money when working in a shop and many small business near her home even run a chainsaw business with her brother cutting down trees when it was legal too.

So part of my plan is to invest in opening small shops and buy the things that she needs to run her businesses. Invest in crops for her own land run by her family. Possibly build a house on her land for her later years.

She of course has got the options of a pension if she agrees finally to marry me. Yes its strange for a filipina not hounding to get married but it just shows I chose the right woman a sensible one who likes to take her time.

Many of these filipino women are better looking after themselves than we are, and they normal always survive thats for sure.

    yes, I know

Have a plan for my wife to have schooling in business while we are here in Taiwan. while I am alive she will still run day to day affairs of the business while I just oversee things. And there will be a Pension setup for her that is something I must do as a back up never know. because there always something that doesn't work as planned.

If she has the talent and the drive thats fine, but unfortunaly some women don't. Sometimes its advisible to find out exactly what she wants to do, some times that hard work as its hard to find out what she wants as she will try to please you in what you have said she needs to do. Complicated but I am sure you will realise what I am on about. Plus the fact that Filipina logic is completly hard to understand. Woman are always hard to understand but filipino culture really complicates things.

Wish you the best, lol been there and worn the t-shirt.

Plans go astray believe me and these beautiful girls change course at a whim, lol

However I hope thats not the way and things go well.

I think renting is much better in most circumstances. When I die my wife will get all my money and assets and she can then buy a house wherever she wants - presumably near her family in Bohol.

Filipina wife will not get empty handed when the foreighner husband die, either she inherit something assets from you, or she can get a pension. If she is beautiful, talented.Im sure she will survive.Don’t worry so much about her future in case you will die.Just enjoy your own money while you are still alive. The rest she can take care herself Im sure. For me the main to worry when there are children involve, then you have to think more.

I still remember an old foreighner in our village, he had a very big house and a young wife.when he died, only few days the wife have no sign of mourning. In fact she even live happily and free…going any parties, discos, many Filipino guys admiring / aftering her (because she had assets from the husband and pension). So, is that something to worry?

With regard to buying, will we see a property price crash to match that in the US and UK - in other words, is it better to wait and see at the moment?

I'm wondering if it might be better to rent after all. Monthly rentals in Dumaguete are unbelievably low compared to European prices. Maybe the smartest move is to let my property in the UK, and use part of the letting income to rent in Duma. Despite the house price crash in the UK, I still have more confidence in the UK property market.
