Exactly! If Babel Fish truly believes in his heart and in his soul that he has good manners, he will apologize to the Filipino people. If he does apologize, then we can say he is a true gentleman.

Question is: does he really have good manners? will he apologize? we will see...

BTW, please pardon me for writing under the expat section as I am not an expat :o :o ...that is all I can say about that. Thank you :D

Oh no! So I have to say sorry for telling the truth, or shall I say sorry for telling the truth. If it hurts sorry too. It takes a man to standup for the truth.

    .

I am not a better man, feel no guilt and I know I can't change the world but I can suggest some good changes to the Philippines to make it a better place than it is. Get rid of the corruption improve education and take to more logic thinking.

I assure you that many visitors here are more critical than me. I also praise when its deserved. I see your very annoyed and that some of the things I have said truthfully, have hit a raw nerve. Visitors here need to know the problems and have their eyes open wide. Yes its a nice country and yes like everywhere else it has its problems. There is no harm in point the problems out than hide them under a mat. Yes many people here are decent hard working citizens and kind but unfortunatly..... etc etc

Your insulting me for telling the truth, not that I am hurt in fact more amused.

You know one of the main problems i have encountered here is a lack of understanding when i ask for something to be done, this i put down to my explanation and a lack of understanding of common english words used in the philippines ie "he took two beers" which to me means....without paying! to my GF it means..... he purchased two beers.

When i read the initial post i also read it as a type of insult, but reading it again, i just think it is too generalised, maybe Babel-fish has had "bad experiences, i don't know, but in every country you get good and bad manners, take China they think nothing of spitting, even at the dinner table! take the UK we're that lazy or my generation is, we swear too much in place of thinking of the correct word to use, it's easier to slip a swear word in than say ermmm and think, i possibly think that the English are the worst culprits for bad grammer, but hey hoe we started the language, we can change it lol every year new words and use of words are added to our dictionary, some good some bad...but they are used in everyday speak now....in the UK!

When abroad we say things that in the UK are perfectly acceptable, here some may take offence, i think that's all that has happened here.

Babel-fish is also the name of a Translation site, maybe babel-fish might just want to Translate into another sentance which to the indiginous population it is not so generalised.

The Babel-Fish tile was taken on because I am a fan of the late Douglas Adams. It was not intended to mean 'languages' though I speak a few and attempting to learn Chinese at present.

I hate to see people spit and urinate in the street, Never see them do that in china and certainly no whilst people are eating. I expect that maybe different to where ever you visit in China. I do know that the streets of Shenzhen are very clean and washed daily.

English grammar problems, started back in the homeland thats for sure, but the americans took bad grammer to its worst hights. Changing S into Z's

I prefer to use the word 'Bloody' to fit in with the pigeon hole the Filipino's fit people born in UK. However I hardly swear other than when I hit my finger with a hammer.

I'm so glad that you react as a non-expat on the 'expat section'.
I'm a bit ashamed for such expats. PLEASE ( ) don't think that we all are like him.
He did a fantastic job in his first 3 weeks on our forum, is n't it ? :p :(

Do you really want to string up Babel-fish?

I not sure what I should say or do here. Defend Babel or jump on the band wagon and lynch him. (got a rope anyone?) I am going for the middle road as best I can. I only have four years in the Philippines under my belt. But just maybe I have a better understanding than Babel. I always defend the Filipino people when I am abroad when people start looking down because it is my home and my wife is Filipina. If I allowed it I could have no face. Babel believes he is a journalist and is writing from an objective point of view not a personal view and I think that is why you will have hard time getting a retraction from him about his statements. In Babel’s heart I know he didn’t intent to offend anyone, he was apathetic with his writing and for that he has fault. My wife and I have had a few problems because she didn’t understand what I was saying. Babel I have found the Filipino’s to be a beautiful people very caring and loving but with that comes very sensitive easily offended. You may not see it because you are not married to one until you are; you will never understand them, because you are not allowed to see the inner heart of Filipino’s. You only know public face of the Filipino’s but what you did was insulted there inner heart this not something that will blow over quickly. Slowly but surely what you said will be known by all (yes, even those not on the web.) Then it will be very hard to live there. My advice is that you apologize. You even are causing Expats to lose face. Everyone else what happen to respecting your elders (even when they are wrong.) Are we showing the world this how you will be treated if you are old make a mistake. I wonder?

My own opinion better not push or pressure anybody in public that he had to apologize. Can you imagine yourself, somebody pushing or pressuring you to say sorry? You think you will do? Maybe you will do, just to end the story, but the question is… if it’s really sincere. You think when somebody say sorry from the pressure of many people you think it will be accepted heartfully, it’s a sort of laughing stock.

I just like to be honest, If I will make a mistakes (nobody is perfect) and people shouting me that I will have to say Sorry (it goes into my nerve). I will never do what they said..

Jelly, thank you for making me feel better about reacting in the expat section, hehehe...made me feel less of an intruder now :D :D I hope I'm not the only one doing so :o

Don't you worry, I do not think that all expats are like him...there is only one like him  (actually, I have noticed a few more in this DI, but a milder version, so I just ignore :D)

For sure, you are one respectable gentleman. I am happy for you and your Pinay love  Wish you both the best
