I agree!!, I'm a former soccer(football) varsity in ADZU, and still girls support the basketball team, we hardly have anyone there supporting us at school matches. Maybe its because USA colonized the Philippines, Is there a little league football in dumaguete? or in the world? I think we can start by organizing some local football teams in Dumaguete, If there is one sign me in! ill be glad to support it.. :D anyone who wants to organized a football club sign me in!! man its been a while since I had wear my football jersey, got to get some fat off too hehe :D

Maybe it's because basketball courts are more accessible. How many soccer fields do we have in Manila or in any major cities in Philippines? With the cost of inner city real estate, I suspect there aren't many.

the lack of football is an anomaly, in comparison to other european colonies around the globe, especially for a spanish colony. it may reflect that the spanish never administered outside manila but used mandarins. the basketball could then be attributes to the usa setting up the first real educational infrastructure in the last centuary, as u point out the smaller court fitting a school much better

but most cultures had some form of football that eventually became standardised into the todays format, so maybe that base was lacking here. but it is unusual that the tv era has not sparked an interest in the game

Surely you're talking about the girly game of soccer, not football, which is only played properly in the US? But either way, I would guess it due to space available. A soccer field being much larger than a half-court for basketball.

hahaha pmsl, it's a skillful game and it's getting bigger in the US.
just remind me again who else do you invite to play "football" stolen term by the way!! the London Monarchs played it and won didn't they?
is it right you have a "world series" in another of your games, in which only the US play? i don't know if it's urban ledgend, but were Japan entered into it once and won??

back to your girly remark lol.....we have Rugby which is even more rougher than your manly game of football, with NO padding!!! we tend to let our neanderthals play that also, but soccer requires greater finesse.
plus soccer in one form or another has been around for centuries, with the romans and chinese having versions of it, it was once played almost to the death and even the heads of opposition were once used as the ball.

so to summerise 9/10th's of the world play football (your soccer)
or working on that principle, 100 billion fly's can't be wrong............ eat sh*t, it's yummy.

that's an english saying btw and not, you eat sh*t which means something else, so no offence intended.

    each to there own....

yes we mean the girly game of soccer where the ball is kicked with a foot. not to be confused with the 'handball occasionally interrupter by a kicker' game, which has been called football . does american football have it's origins in water polo, both great handball games.

actually the american football came from loose rules games, where a ball had to advance beyond the opponents, there was an informal set of rules established in each community, but to a large extent they were based on football/soccer (where it got the name) and rugby. the colleges of the north east began to formalize the rules and establish a league. it was the introduction of the forward pass that removed the parallels to soccer and rugby, but the name football stuck. (or it came from water polo at low tide)

so u can steal the name, but not the beauty of the game
anyway remember where u are. if it is not basketball it is not a team sport

It does not take too long anymore before the USA will enter (actually it's getting quite close already) the vast majority of countries where football (yes, what you play with only your feet, except for the goalkeeper and the person who has to throw the ball into the field from the side line  ) is the main sport activity for as well players as viewers/supporters.
It's all because they finally succeeded to get results in some (outside USA) competitions.
If the money is visible (:greedy::greedy::greedy:$) all Americans (except a few, of course) will start to love this game like we (the older civilised countries  ) do since sooo long already.
Maybe it will push the American Wrestling from the trone of "spectatorship" :D :D :D :D
The big TV channels will certainly take care for that.

Why do they show so much golf and tennis here? There can't possibly be all that many golfers and tennis players in the PI. And badmitten? come on.
I can understand billards, lots of that here, basketball, sure. American baseball, no one in the US watches that. I can understand wrassling, I watched that when I was a kid. Can we call it soccer, so as not to confuse the old farts.
Ya'll have a good one. (and a cold beer for Rhoody)
