I have to agree with JSS...

Good and bad exist from all four corners of the world. I personally take things one person at a time and judge them by their individual behavior...not the whole country.

It's true the each culture has distinct characteristics but not each person...

One of the best night I had playing pool in Why Not was with a group of Japanese....the didn't speak english I did'nt speak Japanese...and we managed to play for about 2 hours...and loved every minute of it.

Such is life right?

I agree the thatched roofs are gorgeous. Hopefully the Philippines have an improved way of treating them. Here in Panama, the thatched roofs are a haven for bugs. So much that it has spawned the joke of "Why did you build you house with food?" lol

could make some provisions to ensure that ppl who retire can own their own lot and ppl can register as residents, nobody feels really comfortable building on leased land and there is money in providing retirment solutions.

Just ensure you keep the (foreign)speculants out, can't really see a lot of damage in foreign owned land, market will stabilise soon enough. Anyway I doubt the average man in the street gets influenced by it, it is not like foreigners come in the millions, Fillipines has a limited atraction.

I understand that ppl don't want to get overrun by foreigners but, it is just silly to want foreign investments without allowing foreign ownership, it hinders the development of the country.

For expats and visitors it might be an advantage to keep the place cheap but I guess the ordinairy Fillipino would like to see some more jobs and better salaries in their own country, rather than spend years in hellholes all over the world to provide their families.

 

i've just seen this thread for the fist time, and i'm not going to read it all, but as for foreigners owning land, logic dictates that a filipino can own land anywhere in the world, why not visa versa? but... as you see all over the world, rich people buy, with no intention of living there, just an investment, using loop holes in the poorly written laws, this then out prices houses for the normal person.

areas need to kept aside for people to buy and strictly adhered to, i think they should be taxed heavily, paradise has a price!

plus for a foreigner who loves his/her girl friend and........ trusts her, these are the 2 basic requirements for getting married in my book, i really don't see a problem with a foreigner owning 50% of there worth, just in case.
