If I did not have to take a loss on stocks I already own I see a lot of bargains for sure. I don't believe a recovery this time is going to be very quick though. A lot of damage has been done and the darn banks don't seem to want to lend a dime to anyone. We just may have to socialize our banks, they seem to have lost the will to perform the function they were created for. I guess it comes down to whether you are a speculator or an investor.

The rise of the peso seemed to be closely correlated with higher gas prices but that is just something I have not really paid too much attention to. Any other ideas on that?

A world currency would be a bad idea. The market needs competing currencies just like we need competition in any other market.

However, I do believe that we need organizations which can help come up with action plans on a global level when the world economy goes south. The U.S. economic meltdown is party a problem of confidence. At least we had Henry Paulson to come out with an action play to say "the government is acting on this." If we would have left this to the 50 states to come up with something then we would have gotten nowhere.

    The Dollar Huh?

The dollar's privileged status as today's global money is not heaven-bestowed. The dollar is ultimately just another money supported only by faith that others will willingly accept it in the future in return for the same sort of valuable things it bought in the past.

It is the market that made the dollar into global money – and what the market gave, the market can take away. If the tailors balk and the dollar falls, the market may privatize money on its own. The "tailors" are the world's central bankers. . The amero is the proposed new currency for the North American Community which is being developed right now between Canada, the U.S., and Mexico.

A new gold-based international monetary system surely sounds far-fetched, But so, in 1900 did a monetary system without gold. Modern technology makes a revival of gold money, through private gold banks, possible even without government support.

Proposed by whom? Crackpots? Nutjobs? Representatives of each group perhaps? In that video the interviewer couldn't even talk about it with a straight face. I hear that bigfoot is going to be on the face of the first Amero bill that gets printed, you know, just to let him know that we are still serious about hunting his hairy @ss down.

There are very good reasons for the Euro to have been created in Europe. North America is not Europe.

    Ok, one more.
In deference to The Dude, I retract my term "empire" and substitute hegemony in it's place.

Now we have Golbal alerts I love this!!!!

LOL , Timn8ter and The Dude. Guy’s your great always so very funny best humor on the net. I really don't believe in the American union or the collapse of America, But something is in the air. They always say where there is smoke there is fire. Timn8ter I like Supremacy it’s funny word when connecting with the world at large right now.

Herbalizer, I found that entertaining to as well a very real possibility but I always tend to be a pessimist but I never take myself or anything to seriously. But I do love controversy in topic’s because I find everyone’s opinions interesting.

Hmmm....looks like the same old story to me...money flowed from the weak to the strong. Very well orchestrated this time....and the process is still on-going - but the storyline never changes. Best we can do - is go along for the ride and use it as best we can. I've been buying Oz blue-chips (and a few US ones) and pretty well shot my wad on them...Now waiting for a year or three to see how it pans out....
