I feel the price is a bit steep a friend rents a house completly modified, aircon and top class fridge and furniture and three bedrooms with tons of floor space for only 14000 peso's a month, plus access to a very nice swimming pool.

The place you have found maybe ideal but I would suggest keep on looking around as there are cheaper places. Its best not to show your face and send a filipino of whom takes pictures and negociates the rent. Not saying that all house owners are charging more to foriegners but some will. But if your happy and can afford well thats the important factors

I still remember in my place where my mother had a small store and the people in the municipality have a surprised search on her store looking what items she is selling ,because there is always a certain amount of how much tax you have to pay on a certain items like when it’s alocohol drinks etc... and she had to pay tax in every categories of items she is selling.

Im not sure of what you are doing having this outsourcing business and have people inside the house not in an official place fit for this kind of business (office) might be a bit suspicious from the BIR.Because when it’s in a house maybe they have a limited rights to check your business and what you are doing inside. So the way you put up your business inside the house is questionable.Especially if you already employed more than 10 people.

I knew many on computer work settled in Philippines, make the Philippines as their based line, because it’s so cheap compared when they have to do their programming in their own country. That’s already a business, they are enjoying the Philippines to make big profit of their work, but are they paying tax NO.So maybe it’s time for the govt. officials to look this kind of people. Why I said this ,because the common Filipino even a very small business sari sari store etc… we are paying tax, the government have easy access to the Filipino what business they are doing and to this kind of people( foreighner who are on computer field business enjoying the Philippines hatching their golden eggs ) NOT.

"because the common Filipino even a very small business sari sari store etc… we are paying tax" Not always true and you are right about foriegners running businesses illegally and its not just computer related. I have noted some that are not registered for renting housing or accomodation. However also Filipino owners doing just the same.

Lets just say that many people in certain business are not paying taxes or registering for a business permit. Your right again yes the BIR need to have investigators actively sorting this problem out but concerning all businesses not just foriegners ones.

One the house for rent avenue its very easy for an inspecter to view newly advertized properties the tools required is a motor bike and a full fuel tank. At a hazard guess i would say about half or more rented properties are being run illegaly and whats the mayor office doing about business permits. Loads of tax revenues are being lost and money that the mayors office is losing concerning business permits.

As a someone that has rented many a property and recieved no offical tax reciepts from either filipino or foreigner and checked up on a few due to minor disputes I am very much in the know about the tax fraud.

You are right, there are many tax fraud happening in Philippines, either filipino or foreighners. I would say some BIR offices (not all) also lousy in doing investigation if this people are paying tax or not (businesses have permit or not). But to those who are properly paying taxes just unfair to think that someone from other country using the Philippines as a based of their businesses and not paying anything to the government and enjoying our resources. I also knew that there are other kinds of businesses doing this tricks,I ‘m only citing the computer field as a response of the thread, aside from that it’s the one that is not obvious from the eyes of BIR.

Maybe the foreighners got this tricks from the Filipino? ( I would say NO because some also escape from their own country because of tax reasons ).In our municipality /BIR people is so very active having an inspection in every baranggay where businesses been established. So I still stand that Im not sympathetic to those foreighners who are making businesses in our country and not paying tax. They cannot just come in our country and have a reason “I will not pay tax or I will not get a business permit because some Filipino don’t”! Foreighners have to think, still many Filipinos are paying taxes. This is not their country and they cannot just arrogantly come and will not follow the laws.

They escape from their own country and went to Philippines and also making fraud there .They need to be punished.

While this is probably technically illegal, I'm not going to run my solo web development business as legit in the Philippines and paying Philippine taxes. I'm going to be living on a tourist visa and I might just decide to move at any time. I'm bringing in all my money from abroad and not using Filipino resources or competing with Filipino's for jobs.

If I were to get a Filipino to help me, I think the best way to do it is to hire that person as a contractor. The Filipino creates a contracting business, pays his/her own taxes and take in whatever work he/she can find. The contractor wouldn't necessarily be working exclusively for me and he/she could negotiate rates with any client.

That is how I do all my work and it's how I get others to do work for me. What better way to create jobs than by prompting people to start their own businesses?

Sure - a great idea, but!

The but is your status as a tourist. Break any of the rules and you might get the boot! Poof! Just like that. No process. No nothing. You are gone.

If that is the way you wish to operate for yourself, fine. Just don't try and camouflage your selfishness as encouraging entrepreneurship. It's not.

    Thanks for Hijacking my Thread

Thanks for Hijacking my Thread and making something good into a negative. It is non of your business but I will say a few things here:

    1. My business is fully licensed. I have all of the (10 and more documents of the government offices here in Dumagute to prove.

    2. Government officials are welcome to come into my home anytime. A fire inspector has been here and I have purchase the "expensive" fire extinquisher he recommended.

    3. My home is used as everyone is in training mode now and I find it both convenient and advantages to work in this type of environment right now.

    4. Yes I take advantage of their labor and they take advantage of my knowledge. I teach them everything as I want this to be learning environment for them.

    5. My team of SEO experts are like family. I treat them as such. I have a fantastic cook in my home and they are well fed. And I am not only them teaching them I am paying them while they are being trained.

You guys need to get a life and stop thinking that every foreigner coming to the Philippines is here to extort people.

The sad thing is that your education system here sucks. Nobody is encouraged to read English in school. I doubt if .01% of all graduates here have ever read a pocket novel. If they have, it I'll bet it wasn't over 25 pages long. And all signs and everything are written in English.

I have an uphill battle everyday with my team regarding their English skills. I am not getting my help here in the Phills for free. I give and they give. I make money and I share it. I care about them and their families.

You guys make it sound like I am getting Harvard University students here in Dumaguete and that I am raping your tax system because I don't pay taxes. Wake up and smell the coffee guys. LOL

If you have doubts stop by for a coffee and see how we work here. I have an open door policy here.

shhhhhhhhhhhhhh will you lot stop talking about TAX!!!
the British government may find me lol
and reading other threads today, i'm also a possible "Chav"
i'm also bad for starting a business.

people ought to stop using that tar brush on every1 and use a little more directed critisisum, your carpet bombing where a smart bomb is needed!!!

reading past posts today, all i've seen is people complaining about anything that don't fit in with what the particular person writting adheres to, that to me is narrow minded, and very selfish, sounds to me you want everyone to fit your own model on living happily here. even that model don't fit in here, as the philippine ppl are very open minded and accept everyone.

Life here is hard enough, without creating waves and the coffee smells wonderful!!
