    I live in Mobile, Alabama and I was fishing yesterday morning off the causeway. I caught a bass first but my second catch I cant seem to identify. I dont fish very much so maybe this is obvious, but I have no clue what it is. Thanks

    its not a tropical fish so I wouldn't really have any idea.. anyway great fish you caught....:D

    It looks more like a Whiting or Hake. Did it have a small snorkle on its lower lip. They are good eating, a delicate, flaky flesh.

    it appears by the spot on its tail to be a redfish. also called red drum. its very common on gulf of mexico side of florida. jim

    thanks jim. yours seems to be the right answer as ive looked at pics to prove it. looks like i need to brush up on my fish knowledge!

    redfish are a great gamefish and even have a professional fishing league. the get up to around 80 lbs i think. the make a clicking sound as they are equipped to break open shellfish. jim

    Doesn't look like a carp to me...thank god. Useless fish. Not sure about now but was swimming in Lake Havasu (spelling? between California and Arizona if I remember correctly) and it was full of carp. You could actually grab them while swimming - there were so many..and so dumb. This one looks a lot better and likely edible....

    Yes Redfish or Red Drum common fish caught on the gulf of Mexico coastline's. Strick regulation's on this species and that one doesn't even come close to legal size. 20 - 28 inches 3 fish limit per day only one over 28" permited with special tag you fill out on your fishing license.
