    Hello Everyone:

I am starting a computer club for expats here in Dumaguete. We will meet at my place for now once a week for 2 hours. I will be hosting this club on Wednesday, January 7th starting at 7 pm. The meeting will end at 9 pm. Coffee and snacks will be provided but no alcohol please. The purpose of this club is to meet with other like minded people and learn from each other. A place where we can share ideas and perhaps software. A place where we can find out about different resources in Dumaguete for computers sales or computer repair. Or what is the best Internet package you have found here and why? These talks will be informal and hopefully fun.

We will have a topic for discussion each week. Members will have the opportunity to share their passion regarding computers. Talks/presentations are to be informal and voluntary. And, no you don't have to a computer geek to join. Wives are welcome to join and I will set up an area where they can play cards and chat.

Some talks could be about how to make a movie with pictures and post it to Youtube. Or, how to market a product online to how do I degrag my computer and why should I? There are lots of topics we can discuss and each week we will vote on what to discuss the next meeting.

While these meetings are meant to be informative and maybe a little educational they are also meant to be fun. Casual and informal are the keywords here.

If you would like to join us just PM me here or email me at franko*4444@*gmail.com Please take out the asterics when sending me email.

Or you can either text or call me on my cell at 092*977460*85 please ask for Franco and remember to take out the asterics.

    Thanks,

    Franco

    Hi Franko:

I think that yours is a commendable initiative. It's probably something that will prove of high value in the expat community.

One small jibe, if you will permit it:

"Wives are welcome to join and I will set up an area where they can play cards and chat"

I don't know about yours, but my wife (and kids) are in many ways far more advanced than I in many areas of computer use. Is it OK that I deliver mine to the club's meeting and perhaps try to learn some card tricks myself?

Seriously, did you really mean that? Je! Je! Je!

I'm in for playing with the wifes too... the only thing what bugs me is the no alcohol-point...
I am not in town at present anyway, I am up at The Dane to make some plans for the future of DI and some other sites. Hope your meetings will be a success

What do you mean you are not being rude? I am sure he was just being friendly meaning if the computer meeting was too boring the women would be provided space to chat among themselves. Dont like it don't go.

Wives Not Allowed to Join Discussion at New Computer Group

The "only" reason I suggested a table setup for the ladies is for their enjoyment. If they are happy talking about computers then that's great. My gal has no interest in computers and does find it boring. I really wish she shared the same passion I do with computers.

On a different note if we need to illustrate something on the computer I have at 5 setup in my home at all times.

Our home is located near Hypermart and just down the street from the Elderwies Restaurant next to the Sari Sari Store.

    My Contribution

I just thought I would give a little blurb about my area of expertise around the computer. I have a small business running out of my home doing SEO for people. That's Search Engine Optimization. We are really blog oriented in our approach. We try to get people on the 1st page of Google with our methods. We don't make millions here, it's a little to get by on but we have fun doing what we do.

Part of our SEO is helping people with their online marketing. We help them find areas where they can dominate on Google.

We also have a webdesigner/developer on board who is an expert with Joomla.

If I can help someone in some way in my area of expertise I am happy to do it. I am hoping that others will bring much more expertise to the table than I.

I need to say this so it doesn't get misunderstood. I have hired here, any person who could do the job. Young, old, white, black, yellow, male or female, university, high school, no school. I hire only on their ability.

Nice, that is a little early for me (I work evenings) but I will do my best to show up.

Edit: Heh, I like my alcohol also but then again, I find that alcohol and computers don't really mix very well for me. Not as potentially lethal as alcohol and driving though.
