can any one offer advice on how i could discover the telephone number of the dept. of animal control in quezon city? we will be moving to duma in march and wish to bring family dog with us as she is 10 years old and important to us. i need a form for import of pet that they claim can be obtained online but we cant get the website to function. any other advice on bringing the dag? she is a 90 lb. flat coated retriever. will she prove to be a problem in obtaining temporary housing? will she be a problem in obtaining permanant house rental? does anyone know the step by step procedures with embassy required? thanks jim m

I know that I will set off a howl of disagreement and protest for saying this. There is only one practical option:

    Off the dog !

And just who appointed you as hallway monitor?

Helpful? Perhaps not, but very practical. I have owned an older pet and it is simply not fair to the animal to subject it to these un-necessary stresses just for our own pleasure. How incredibly selfish and inhumane.

    OFF THE DOG !

davfitz you are apparently an angry guy ontop of being an expert on the health and welfare of dogs. we sought the advice of the dogs veterinarian in advance. you could have voiced your concerns in a kinder more sensitive fashion "off the dog" and subsequent personal attack tells me alot about you

I'll ignore your abusive rejoinder and the meanness which inspired it. I know that it is early for you and you may not as yet have had your morning's coffee.

In a spirit of neighbourly helpfullness, I offer you the following possibilities which I found in less than 30 seconds of the search which you could easily have performed yourself:

Pets Quarantine Philippines, Philippines Animals Pets Immigration Travel

that website answers your telephone number question directly.

    The second one:

Global Paws - Pet Transportation Specialists / Pet Travel Agency

may give you a start point for your other travel and importation considerations.

The answers to your remaining questions should prove to be equally facile. Are these a problem in Concord? If they are at your present home, they are more than likely certain to be equally so here.

I'll repeat my earlier assertation. I'll sugar coat it for you but you may require assistance with the polysyllabic words.

    Euthanize the canine animal!

Have a nice day! Yes, I'm a curmudgeon. The name's *rick. The "P" is silent.

davfitz, once again your anger is controlling you. thank you for the info on the two websites. im a neophyte with computers and appreciate the help you kindly provided. our vet assures us our dog can handle the relocation so "offing" or euthanizing wont be necessary, nor will be it necessary to find a good home for her back in the states. once again, thank you for the info. jim m

Coach are you sure your pet is ready for such a long trip? I will bet you have to change planes at least three times and I am willing to bet that on the last leg of the flight the planes are so small the cargo hold will be literally a closed, lightless closet. And if pets are not allowed on this last leg between Manila and Duma you will have to have the pet transported overland/sea routes. Same thing with landing in Cebu. If your pet was smaller and lighter I would say you would have a better chance but such a large animal is going to be complicated. Hopefully that Global Paws will be able to give you accurate information concerning shipping a pet the the PI provnces.

Unless you have an agreement ahead of time with your future landlord you are taking a chance with bringing the pet right away. The better option might be getting established first and then having your pet sent after if you have some responsible friends that will help you out.

I can also say on my many flights in and out of the PI I have never experienced anyone transporting a pet, the reason I too am skeptical about your plan. Anyway good luck and keep digging

we reached same conclusion as you that we will ship her after we have been here for awhile. northwest airline flies from boston to manila with only one change of planes and that is at their home base in detroit. from manila we have not yet made arrangements with anyone but could take ferry if needed. thanks for input. jim
