In the phone book? I had to suppress a smile. When I needed a dentist last August, there was only one in the phone book. That's how I found Dr. Ong.

He's good! I'm seeing him again later today.

My first visit was, I thought, in response to an urgency. I had bitten down hard and heard the sound of an older filling collapsing and leaving a tooth fragment - which I retrieved. My wife and I attended his clinic and he could find nothing amiss in my mouth. I produced the fragment. There was nothing missing anywhere in my dental structures, he assured me.

He said to my wife handing her the probe and adjusting the light. "Here, you be the dentist!" She searched too, and could find nothing. We both laughed heartily when he explained that the fragment was from a pig - a lechon consumed at our wedding!

    Consultation fee? No charge.
