How much would I have to invest (in monthly rent) for a decent 1-2 bedroom apartment (60-90sqm), fully furnished, preferably with a small kitchen, A/C and cold/hot water in the bathroom?

It should be in a not too remote area, safety is very important or in a condo compound. Payment should be monthly, max 1 month in advance.

Is 7.000-10.000 Peso/month realistic for a place like that or am I dreaming?

    Thanks,

    Chris

Sorry Chris but you are dreaming. You'll have to up your budget.

7K pesos will buy you 2 bedrooms, unfurnished, small kitchen, no A/C, cold water about 2 km from the non-beach. That if you are lucky.

Oh, okay! ;-) I heard that some foreigners pay that in other cities around the Philippines, i.e. in Davao or GenSantos. It's maybe different in Dumaguete then.

What would you see as a realistic rent for an apartment similar to the one described above?

    Thanks a lot!

I'll let someone else answer that part. I gave you the details of my own modest abode, which I am told is a good deal.

i dunno either, for a view of the tsunami actually hitting the beach, would be well expensive, lol, i lived 500mts from the beach....erm hard to call a beach in Dumaguete a beach, but it had sand, maybe not white or yellow stuff, my rent was 5500php unfurnised, but i know sum1 thats paying 8000 for furnished, free elec and water, so he don't care how far it is from the beach. so it's a matter of trade off in the end

I arrived wanting about the same thing. The only thing I could find close to what your looking for was almost an hour South of the City at the far end of Zamboanguita. Beautiful place nicely furnished but wouldn't bet on broadband service. They were asking 27,000 a month.
I settled for a decent furnished 2 bedroom utilities included, much closer to the city, not on the beach for 10,000. Best bet is to find a temporary place, get the bike and start hunting. Good Luck.

I admit with shooting for a beach view, that's probably asking too much. I plan to drive around anyway every day. So something what Kenny mentioned would probably suffice. Doesn't have to be a palace like Rhoody's. ;-)

Okay, I got it. Will probably come here first and look around, seeing a dozen places. What would be interesting areas to look at in your opinion? Regarding safety, amenities and not too far from the action?

Many thanks for the great and friendly help!
